    • Can someone please help me???


      I have enjoyed using Coldstone so far, but lately I have run into a major problem in my graphics.
      When creating .pct or .png files using AppleWorks or Photoshop, I can easily put them into my map or on an item through Coldstone, but when I go to test my game, they don't show up!!! It's just empty space where the picture should be. I have tried .pct, .png, and tiff files, and none work. If someone would please help me with this issue it would allow me to continue game production. Much thanks

      Hi Plauge developer. Welcome to the boards. I had exactly the same problem when I started. The images would look fine in the game editors but either not exist in the game or show up as wierd squares with psychedelic patterns. Then I learned two things about graphics:

      • graphic files must be 72 ppi (pixels per inch)

      • colors must be set at 16 bit (32768 colors)

      A program like GraphicConverter will let you convert your pictures to conform to the correct criteria. Good luck with your game. 🙂 ~RD

    • In PS, go to image size and make sure the resolution is 72 Dots/Pixels per inch. Then when you save make sure you save it via save as and not through save for web. I can never get it to work through save for web.

      Some other tips.

      Only use JPG's for saving when you have no transparency and the shape is a square or rectangle.

      When saving as a PCT file make sure you save it with NO compression as it won't work otherwise.

      For my games I use a combination of JPG's and PNG's for the graphics. TIFF files won't work.

    • I use this lovely app called Snap Pro 2 from right here at Ambrosia. I'm in Photoshop or Fireworks or Poser or Bryce, make my graphic, then I'll take a picture with SP2 as a pct file. I can then rotate my file and take another picture. Because SP2 stays exactly where the last picture was made until you move it, the two pcts are the same exact dimensions. This has allowed me to make precise graphics. For instance, I made a meal on a plate and took a pct, then deleted the meal and took a pct. So now when the Player eats the meal, the meal seems to disappear and the plate remains without moving or changing. I like the precise attributes of SP2. But, what's cool is that it saves your files for what Coldstone likes.

      72 dpi, 16 bit pct files

      I find png files to sometimes be wierd.
