    • About maps...

From the time I had Coldstone, I tried many times to make maps.

I had no problem making them or to make so that the player appears on that map.

Well, in fact, I had problems making them...

Each time I tried to make one, everything seemed OK. But then, as I tested it, everything went wrong. Sometimes, the ground tiles disappeared, the access things were not respected (the player could go where he should not) and he was going under the houses and trees. And the last is my biggest problem. I figured out how to fix the other ones.

I looked at the game given with Coldstone and I placed my layers in the same order as they did. In they're game, the player walked in front of the house when he had to and walked behind when he had to.

      Not in my game.

The player always walks behind the objects... I tried many things but nothing works.

      Anyone as an idea ?

Create a Layer called "Nature" spell it exactly like that and place it below the player marker. That should do the trick.

    • At the left of the map window is where you can define layers. It looks strange because it's blank. But once you create a layer, it will then show <<Player>> so you can tell where the Player is.

Place an image in a layer that's below the Player, and the Player can walk in back of it. Place an image in a layer that's above the Player, and the Player can walk in front of it and up to it.

(edit) You always also have to define the access tiles. Click on access in the map window and use the pointer to indicate where the Player can't go. If it's red, he can't go to that tile.

    • OK, although you said you already fixed it, let me just say to be sure that your ground tiles are 96x96, instead of the default 32x32 size.

As Debra said, layers above the <<Player>>, he can walk on, ones below him he can walk under. As seen in (url="http://"http://server5.uploadit.org/files/adh005-GroundStuff.jpg")this picture(/url). "Stuff" would be objects like that patch of dirt, while "Above All" would be things like birds. One exception to this is the "Nature" layer. It doesn't need to be called "nature", like Graham said, but it should be right below the <<Player>>. This is the layer that differentiates (sp?) between the player being in front of an object or behind. This is the layer to put your houses, trees, etc.

I think the way it determines to put the player above or below the stamp is that, the top half of the stamp's pixels it puts the player below, and the bottom half he is above.

    • That is what I thought. I have fooled around with themes on OS X, but I have not found one I like yet. Mostly because there is none, that I have found, that have a "nature" feel.

    • The themes are not in the system. You can download them at a few sites and then use a app to install them. I used ThemeChanger because it is free, but there are others.

    • I got another question about maps...

I found out in the manual about Ground Tools. I then remembered that there were ground tools in the "Medieval" game. So I tried to understant how they worked but I couldn't find out. I mean, when I tried to place them on the ground, it made, for example, strange shade but only when I placed it on shade. I think I understand how to create them, but I don't know how to use them.

      Anyone can help ?

Do you mean Ground Tools or Ground Tiles? There are tools on the map editor which allow you to perform various operations on the map, but you don't place tools on the map. You do place ground tiles on the map as a base for everything else to go on. I'm sorry, but I don't find any reference to Ground Tools in the manual.

I was talking about Ground Tools. Look the manual (not the tutorial one) page 31.

    • A ground tool is a nifty way to make a road or river, etc. in your ground. It's an animation that's configured a certain way.

It needs to be placed in the TOOLS folder. Then when you're in a map, click on "ground." Choose the ground tool in the tool folder, and with your pointer, drag your ground tool onto the ground. It usually needs to be cleaned up, but it's faster than doing it by hand.

It usually doesn't work when you don't have the correct ground base tiles on the map. In other words, you need to first cover the ground with grass, let's say. Then, if your ground tool animation is configured correctly, it'll work. But you must have a ground cover first.

What I ended up doing is opening up the medieval ground tool to see how to configure the animation for grass so that I could figure out the principles. Having the medieval game around, even if you don't use it, is good reference.

      Hope this helps.
