      OK, I suppose this could be viewed as irrelevant, but just look at it as a warning.

      Yesterday was the first time I opened Coldstone in a while. I opened up The Vale, and of course my first action was to try the game I had so far. I build and launch, and what do I get? Can't load dialog picture.

      OK I think, maybe it isn't there. I check and sure, it's there. Next I think it may be corrupted, so I grabbed one from one of my old games and replaced it and the loading screen pictures. Hurrah it works! It loads.. but wait, at the end of the load, the bar just stays at the end, and the game is at a standstill.

      Okay, so the main screen isn't linked right, or an event isnt made correctly. Everything's fine. At this point I'm quite frusterated. I replace the startup screen picture, and it works! I click on new game, the name prompt pops up, I enter the name and press ok. The name prompt closes and... nothing happens. It's still at the main screen.

      By this time I was so confused... until I had a revelation. I go to my new game event, and Get Info. Sure enough, the ownerships and permissions was only allowing a different users to manipulate the file!

      Long story short, I had recently created a new user in OSX, and I sloppily moved my CS data into the new user from the old user. The result? Every single one of my game files was only allowing the other user to use my files. Yesterday was spent fixing every single file and changing the permissions for each of them. Then I had to fish out all the little ones that werent done correctly (they were like viruses, I tell yah. You play the game and all of a sudden, oops! An NPC is missing!). Anyway, I guess just be warned about creating new users, and dont move your files sloppily like i did. i think copying to the new user works. Well, good luck to you all, guess I needed a vent for my frustration =/.

      Welcome to OSX. It's one of the reason's it's slmost impossible to hack into OS X because of that and many more security features.

      I have not created a second user on my computer,

      However the finder when selecting a folder you have the option of changing the permissions of the folder, then clicking 'Apply to enclosed items...'

      another tool BatCHMOD..another tool to change permissions for files..useful for uploading thing to servers as well..

      Yes, the Finder does have this feature. However, it only works some of the time. Also the apply to enclosed items will only apply this to items 1 level into the folder. This is one of the biggest bugs in Mac OSX.

      Strange. It worked for me in all levels further down. Though I did have to go into the main account to change it.

      Of course you could do ( after moving stuff around ) in the terminal:

      computer:~ yourusername$ sudo chown -R yourusername:yourusername ~yourusername

      Which makes sure that your home directory, and all of its contents are owned by you, in the same group as you, and thus, accessible to you 🙂

      Strange... I used "apply to enclosed items" many times and it worked all the time... 😕
      Maybe it's about the OS X version...

      I find that "apply to enclosed items" doesn't work if the item is owned by another administrator. That program, BatCHMOD, works a lot better though.

      even if it doesn't exactly work, if it'll even go on elevel down its a great time saver for those 70+ picture animation sets, if you have to do it for every folder it beats each individual item..

      Yeah, it was another admin. But I just did Edit > Select All and then got info on them all. Like it said, though, there were still ones that didnt change. But I'll check out that program.

      Come on guys, Just run "Disk Utility" select your hard drive in the window and hit "Verify Disk Permissions" then when thats done hit "Repair Disk Permissions". It will fix all that stuff. Jeff

      P.S. If you can't find "Disk Utility" search for it.

      That depends on whether he keeps the other user on the computer. If he doesn't, then it will not fix it.
