every time i try to play my game all the locations are black but all the sub windows like the map and the character screen work by using their shortcuts.

Could you explain a little more about the problem I don't think I fully understand. Aslo in Locations do you mean main locations? What are the map shortcuts? Make sure you are using .pic or .png file formats.

Are you using your own graphics or ones from the art library?

What have you set for movement tile dimensions?

What have you set for ground tile dimensions?

Are all the locations named exactly the same as the maps (except for suffixes)?

Are all the location pictures also named the same?

What do you mean by "using their shortcuts"?

Has your character wandered the whole area to see if the map is somehow condensed to one corner?

This could be a different problem, though, and the description he gave was different than the usual Panther bug I've seen.
