    • Item Freeze

I have just been plagued by an annoying bug.

In the map editor, I place an item. Everything's fine. I place the item a second time. Coldstone freezes. I force quit.

Does anyone know why this happens? I recently made an item that is very important to my showcase entry (doors) and I can't place them in the map. Argh.

Sorry for the short post... I have to run, but I wanted to get this answered by tomorrow.

I have expierienced this bug and the only way I know of to fix it is to reinstall coldstone and delete the coldstone preferences.

    • I also run into this and haven't figure out why. I've made it a habit to place items with the item launch event in a map's locations def, local event, so it loads when the map loads in play. Since I want to have items according to levels, this is the way for me to go anyway.

    • If you're running OS X then delete the CS prefernces (Macintosh HD:User:YOURACCOUNT:Library:Preferences :). You should delete both"Coldstone Prefs" and Coldstone (OS X).plist.

As for OS 9, I believe the issue here is a memory leak: Coldstone just keeps on soaking up memory and finally quits. Apparently, the more memory you allocate to Coldstone, the more items you can place before it quits. If you're on OS 9 try using OS 10 (if you have it). The reason is that OS 10 has better memory management and should prevent this item-placing lock-up. I have never had the issue myself, so I don't know the specifics. Most of this is what I've heard about other cases put together with a little inference. If you can't get it working, then go ahead and reinstall :frown:

P.S. Two things to be aware of: First, 10.0-10.1 may have this problem more than 10.2 as there is a drastic difference in memory manage. Second, the size of the picture of the item being placed may also create the error. See if smaller images/more compressed formats work better.

    • I think there is an easier way than a re-installation with pref deletion. I have had similar instances where CS will do one or more tasks and then lock or crash. You say you can get one item there but the second one freezes up. Try this, it's worked for me. Place your first item. Save and quit. Re-open and place your next item. It only takes a minute to do that and the memory needs don't build up.

A lot of times when people suggest re-installing CS a simple save, quit, re-open is all you need. This is particularly true when working with maps. I hope that helps you and others.
