    • Creating People

I have the tool: Cinema 4D XL 6.3 I don't know whether it will be sufficient for populating my game with people, but I'm going to give it a shot.

What I lack is the know-how. Does anyone know of any resource I could use to give me an understanding of how to model the people I need? I don't even want to worry about animating them yet, just realistically modeling them. I have no budget. I would not spring for Poser even if I had cash, since I what I've seen of it's sprite work has been extremely unimpressive.

Does anyone know anything on this subject?

(My other problems include doing realistic tiles and organic scenery.)

There are probably other sites as well, and books (maybe check the books section of half.com with a search on "character modelling")... You don't necessarily need instructions for your specific software, just for the type of 3d youre doing (NURBs, polygons, metaballs), as most programs have the same basic tools and features.

      good luck,

    • As Myshkyn has noted, there are quite a few places to go for this sort of thing, as 3D Cafe and such. Your best bet would be to go to google.com, and do a search on Cinema 4D tutorials (I would know, I was in the same boat you are in now, and this is how I solved my problem 🙂 ) ZThen sift through your results. One thing though to keep an eye on: Which C4D that is used. I was looking for (at the time) the CINEMA 4D XL 5.31 version tutorials, and when I printed them all out and began to review them at home, I realized that they were for the 6 version. I hope I have been of some service.

    • 3D Buzz has some wonderful Video Tutorials for 3D Max and Maya. As long as Cinema is a polygon base modeler, you shouldn't have too much trouble taking the concepts presented and using them in the program of your choice. Granted, their turorials are for Unreal Tournament, but modeling is modeling. If you learn how to do a character, you could output the 2D sprites for use in ColdStone. The two turtorials are very simular, even though they are two very different programs.
