    • Newbie needing help

yea, this is sad, i have yet to even open the program and i need help,
o-k, i downloaded the demo, and i want to work with it, but when i try and open it, an error box pops up, with the error line 1010,
anyone know what this is and how(if at all) it can be fixed?

      ------------------

    • kat X, welcome to the boards!

I'm not sure how much help we can offer, as I've only seen this error message posted once before and a solution wasn't reached. But we can certainly give it a try!

Error 1010 is a "DS error which is specific to the new runtime model introduced with the PowerPC." (thanks to Glenn for finding this)

This doesn't explain much at all, unfortunately.

What computer do you have, and what operating system? Do you have any version of CarbonLib installed?

    • hey stark,
thanks for the quick reply, and that really sucks that this is a rare problem, and that no-one could resolve the last time it happened, cause i really want to work with coldstone.
no, i don't have a copy of caronlib installed, and my computer stats are as follows,
      os 8.1
      powermac G3
      powerpc G3 @ 266 MHZ
if theres anything else anyone needs to know to help, i would be willing to give up whatever info,
(except of course my address and which windows are left unlocked,)
other than those two things, ask away, i want to get it up and running, anxios to work.

    • Can you update your OS to 8.6?

    • i hate to sound like a complete loser, but how might you suggest going about that?
i checked at apple.com, and found numerous pages on updateing, but my G3 isn't a new looking model, i'm pretty sure it's been worked on a few times, it's not in the shiny new looking case, thus i'm not sure if it's what the apple pages are talking about as the G3.
also, to update, i'm guessing it'll cost some money?
haha, i'm a sucker for freebies though.
also, if i'm at version 8.1, will i have to update to 8.5 before i go to 8.6? cause thats what most of these pages are telling me.

    • CS needs carbonlib, carbonlib needs 8.6, 8.6 needs a G3 or better.

      Sorry 😞

      ------------------

    • Not true. I have an old Performa 5260 with a 100Mhz 603e running 8.6. Sure, it's slow, but it runs. πŸ™‚ I could even use Coldstone on it.... if I felt like melting what little RAM (48 MB) is under the hood... πŸ˜‰

Hmm. Let me take a quick spin through the KBase Kat... I think I remember reading a while back that 8.5 was released for free, and 8.6 has always been a free update for 8.5. I'll be back soon. πŸ™‚

(Updated). Hmm. No, it appears that MacOS 8.5 isn't free... and you can't really buy it from Apple any more either. I suppose you could always pay for a system update... I suppose you could always try to install CarbonLib onto system 8.1, if you wanted. I know that some people in the past have done so, although it really shouldn't make a difference since the actual system doesn't utilise CarbonLib until system 8.6.

Bit of a bind there, really.

    • Actually, my computer (a Centris 650) has been updated to Mac OS 8.1 and I added CarbonLib 1.2.1 to it and coldstone runs fine(I would add the newest version but I can't find it). My suggestion is that you go to: (url="http://"http://download.info.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/English-North_American/Macintosh/System/Other_System/CarbonLib_1.6.smi.bin")http://download.info.apple. com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/English-North_American/Macintosh/System/Other_System/CarbonLib_1.6.smi.bin://http://download.info.apple. com/App...Lib_1.6.smi.bin://http://download.info.apple. com/App...Lib_1.6.smi.bin(/url)
      (man, thats a mouthful...)
This is free and from apple directly so it should work. πŸ™‚

      Hope it works!

    • Unfortunately, I just barely stumbled upon a Apple.com web page and it has grim tidings:

      Quote

Download a single or multiple file version of Mac OS 8.6 Update. It cannot be installed as a stand alone Macintosh operating system. You must have a retail version of Mac OS 8.5 to use this update. If you have lost or damaged your original Mac OS 8.x application software it cannot be replaced.

So unless you can find it somwhere else, your stuck.
Of course, if you wanted to (and could afford to) make this into a small side business to where you work or whatever you do to pay the bills, and possibly persuade the state that you live in and/or some company to sponsor it with a grant, you could purchase a new machine.

    • hey, have tried two dif. carbonLib downloads,
yea, 1.6 doesn't work, cause i need 8.6 or higher, and i downloaded a file called
      carbonLib_1.0.4_sdk.sit
and i'm not sure if it's the carbonLib your talking about, it had an extention called carbonLib, but coldstone still doesn't work.
      arg.
i think next i'm going to try to find the version of carbonlib 1.2.1 that blacklite is, or was running, and see if that will work.
if not, anyone have any other ideas on how to get it to work?

      Thanks alot you guys,
      Kat X

    • Kat X, I think I have an idea as to fix your problem, but then again, I don't fully understand your problem. What's exactly going on with your computer, and is it a 'true' G3, or was it upgraded?

    • If something seems to be outdated, I tend to go to ebay. I've been very successful there. I have an old powermac 8600 (I don't do Coldstone on it), but to do my taxes had to upgrade my OS. Got 8.5 and then upgraded it to 8.6.

    • i'm pretty sure, now that i've been working with it all week, that it's a true g3
the case says powermac g3 on the front, and with all the stats i've seen on display, i'm pretty sure that it's a true one.
but i have yet to find any way of fixing the problem.
eh, i've almost given up hope, sadly

      once again, thanks guys,

1.6 is specifically for 8.6 and higher, so this will not work.

The 1.0.4 sdk version is the development tools and isn't what you want. Try grabbing yourself a copy of the standard 1.0.4 version of carbonlib and installing it. You can get a copy of it (url="http://"http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=88016")here(/url).

Good luck, let us know if that works.

    • good news and bad,
i'll shoot off the bad news first,
carbon lib 1.0.4 did nothing to solve the problem. it installed correctly, but it didn't fix the error 1010 warning,
      good news,
i was offered mac os 9 by a highly generous individual
who, while fighting the day to day battle of boring and highly undertaught computer art and design class, is still able to help out a guy who is attending the every day over paid, although also underestimated college of art and design art courses.
      thanks man, you rock.
so, hopefully os 9.0 will fix my bug, and i'll be able to make my game i've been wanting for several years now.

      peace out,
i'll keep the news coming, and if i forget to update, send me a line.
