    • A dialog on PNGs and color..Good yet Good For 'ya

      Read my (url="http://"http://www.geocities.com/ellrx/info/ellleon.html")dialog on PNG graphics, 'Thrice a PNG'.(/url)

      "Computer science dressed up in a gorilla suit secreting NitrousOxide." -Chicago Tribune

      "Absotively posolutely, spell binding." -USA Today

      "riveting...simply riveting" -Wall Street Journal

    • I guess I'm continuing my slide into old fogeyhood, as I was massively irritated by the effort required to make sense of the article.... ellrx, would you mind ever writing something in coherent, simple English? :frown:

      ------------------
      I don't know what I'm talking about.
      Oh no, here comes another learning experience.
      Oderint dum metuant?

    • ::exhilirated, riding high atop his float, he waves to the crowd. Odd...he feels the pitter-patter of rain, looking skyward he spots a cloud...cumuloglennbus if i'm not mistaken::

      Ahhhh c'mon Glenn!!!

      I admit its different, but i figured hey i could just post something long and drawn out about;
      hexadecimal color, the history of the png graphic including its approval by the w3c in 1996, conversion from hexidecimal-binary binary to base10, the significance of the numbers;16,256 and 32767, offer a few formulas regarding how to calculate total bits, get into spacial sampling and registers...and then conclude with my grand finale on ...rambles on intelligently.

      Just trying to have a little fun there then yet...have you ever seen one of those silly Surgeon General filmReels, "warning you about the dangers of", "informing you about the effects of", "educating you in the proper use of" or to be specific my personal childhood favorite "abstinence is excellence".

      'sides its not an article man, its an edutain mental skit. Its a FAQ in disguise...something to take the edge off of learning and mastering a strange format. I wager many people(present at this very forum) have only come into contact with PNG over the past 18 months.
      Its a bit of relevent light-hearted whimsy.
      Not a technical-this is how you make a png, step 1. insert tab A into slot B-tutorial

      ::whisper:: by the way, (url="http://"http://www.geocities.com/ellrx/info/ellleon.html")hold the mouse over the eLL' Wood Logo at the bottom of the page(/url)...i know, whoop di doo....i guess it was more fun to design it.

      Glenn i find you're remark to be a condescending,hurtful,petty,falsifiable cheap shot fired with the discretion of a blunderbus loaded with the shrapnel of selective memory...just for that i have enclosed the following segment;
      ---------

      ahem,

      For sterile information on the PNG format i would consult the following web addresses.

      Yeah, it is tough when somebody rains on your creative parade before the crowd has started to cheer.

      No, I don't think you could if you tried. Admittedly, I probably haven't read enough of your posts, so it took me a while to start tasting the meat covered in such thick gravy. Perhaps that's the problem here, I didn't start out knowing what was on the menu. For a real palatal success, the chef might consider something a little less cordon bleu. Once digestion started, it was a gastronomic success. ~RD

      I guess I didn't include the appropriate smilies. The point was that your humor keeps bubbling to the surface even in your replies (including this one to me) and I find it hard to believe that you could stay serious long enough for an extensive answer. The "meat" of your dialogue was thickly covered. It took perceptive talents to uncover it. I am sorry that you seem to have read my analogy as critical, whereas it was intended to be analytical.

      No, it didn't make me feel better - it was suposed to make you feel better. As I said, once I got through the sauce the meal was enjoyed. ~RD

    • well i thoroughly enjoyed it even though some of the tech stuff i might have to stop and think about as i dont get stuff that linear the 1st time around. good stuff. i just pictured the storyteller as some old sage with some village kids around him and the rest was history. makes for a better read than the norm cuz as u posted above, the norm has been done several times and even your quick use of such voluminous vocabualary has me on guard sometimes. good stuff.

      You could, but who'd want to read something like that? 😛

      My fault, then. I was expecting and/or hoping for a helpful tutorial rather than mere light-hearted whimsy.

      Hmm, all I find is a link in the center of the image - if you're talking about the brain-melting animation, the image does that all the time whether I hover over it or not.

      Yep, lots of dry documentation there. Doesn't mean that there isn't still plenty of room for a helpful, readable tutorial about how to make and use PNG graphics with Coldstone.
