      Mr. Gerglet,

A couple questions could help in this:

      1. What version of Coldstone are you using? 1.0 or 1.0.1? If you are using 1.0 then grab the latest version (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/cgi-bin/vftp/show.pl?product=coldstone&category;=essentials&display;=date&file;=coldstone_update.sit")here(/url).

      2. What OS are you running Coldstone under?

      3. Do you have anything in your "Pictures" folder? Possibly a file that is of an unsupported type?

      (url="http://"http://stark.evula.net")Stark.evula.net(/url) now on (url="http://"http://www.evula.net")EVula.net(/url)

    • thanks for your reply....no...didn't have the update...just downloaded it and will install it

I'm running OS 9....but will soon be upgrading to OS X

the picture file is completely empty...or was...will check it again after installing the update

question...will the installation of the update change the program/icon from demo to full package? my version still shows it as demo presently/prior to installing the update...even though it is registered

      ------------------

    • I had a similar problem. It happened when I changed the name of my plugin folder, and then tried to open a map. If you leave coldstone on all the time (like me) try quitting and reopening it. Then try to create a map. I hope this helps.

      Mr. Gerglet,

No, it won't. I assume you downloaded Coldstone? In order to get the "full package" icon you will need to copy the files from the CD over to your computer, which will replace the demo package that you downloaded from Ambrosia. But don't worry, the work you have been doing should have been saved in a folder outside of the Coldstone folder, so swapping CGE folders should have no affect on your work.

    • that perhaps is part of my problem then...smile....I haven't received the cd yet...so will install the full package once the cd arrives...thanks for your help

I too leave mine on most of the time...I don't recall changing the name of a plugin folder...but could have by mistake...but I did recently restart Coldstone and sadly still have the same problem...thanks much for your help...hopefully I'll get it figured out soon..smile

    • NilObjectException:

"An Unhandled NilObjectException occurs when you access an
      object
      that hasn't been created yet."
      ~Geoff Perlman, ceo RealSoftware (realBasic)

At its base coldstone copies/create/customizes/organizes chunks or segments of code in order to produce your game. The quickest and most illustrative/obvious (IMO) way to crash coldstone is to attempt to loop a single frame animation (which will throw you into an infinite loop, DO NOT ATTEMPT!!!!ĄĄĄĄ ) .That is because you cannot loop a single frame and Coldstone Has no nice way of telling you this. It tries to execute the process that would diplay a looped animation, but cannot so it tries again and again ad nauseum, or until you can force quit/manually restart.

A safe and simple excercise is to create an action in an event and attempt to give it no name, the engine will politely remind/insist that you give it a name before you proceed, that is an error message and a properly handled "anomaly", the nilObjectException(/similar fatal error messages) is the all purpose error message for RealBasic /other similar code environments. The IDE simply rolls this protocol into every derived application, in order to make them safe(the application kills itself most times in order to spare your computer...::sniffle:: how noble. )

    • Are you using the Coldstone Editor, or the Coldstone (OS X) editor? I've only ever noticed the NilObjectException error in the Carbonised editor, the error is different in the Classic editor. If so, this might be an issue with your version of CarbonLib......

I'm using the editor that came with the demo....I'll be upgrading to OS X soon...but currently using OS9...some have said that I should wait for a cd...but the first email I got confirming my purchase of Coldstone said I won't get a cd...so a bit confused on that issue as my version still says demo...though I have registered my license code

I have gotten a message refering to CarbonLib...but as yet haven't gone into that issue...have waited for awhile to see if a cd might show up....though it hasn't...

I will check into the CarbonLib this night as see if that might help...though I'm still unsure if I have the full version of Coldstone as my version still says demo

      thanks much for your response...smile

    • I got that Email too, it scared me 🙂 Don't worry, they'll send you a CD. I'm sure ambrosia won't mind if you email them asking them to put your mind at rest though 🙂

Sorry for the misunderstanding here... when you unstuffed Coldstone, there should have been two applications within the folder: "Coldstone" & "Coldstone(OSX)". Of these two, until you upgrade to OSX, you should definitely leave the OSX version alone. Since I believe that an NilObjectException Error only happens in the OSX editor, if you are using it, I recommend using the 'Classic' editor.

Also, when you mention it says that it is still a demo... where, exactly? Does it pop up a box asking you to register, or is it something else?
