      OKey dokey, here's the problem!
I can't think of an interesting enough end-boss for my game... basically! So I'm hoping people here may have some suggestions. Let me set the scene...

You are a human with Demonic blood flowing through your veins and you've just battled your way through a deep tomb filled with flowing lava, headless zombies, possessed corpses and powerful spectres. You've just killed a giant severed hand and a charred carcass with the ability to manipulate magick powers greater than your own...
After placing three golden skull amulets in the indentations on the surface of a blood-stained alter, a cavern opens in the floor, leading towards a long, dark, unexplored tunnel. Who knows where it will lead...?

ok, so you do know where it leads, it leads to the end boss... but i can't think of what it could be!! Any suggestions? 🙂 remember it's a tomb full of undead nasties, so it should fit somewhere within that theme... But other than that, please feel free to describe the biggest, baddest, bloodiest mosters you can think of! Credit will be given to all who reply when my game is finally finished.

An unusual request, i know, but I'm looking foreward to the responses! 😄
      Thanks all,
      Migraine

    • A Vampire
      A Soul-Collector
Or some sort of evil entity that needs parts of living creatures for itself because it's parts die off, sort of like the fellow on Jeepers Creepers.

    • This will sound quite strange but why go for the obvious Demon of All Demons...why not play with the characters emotions, twist/disorientate them...

whnen you crack the seal on the door comes a slow fractured stacatto nursery rhyme/lullaby and within the cavern lies a child (a la Red Queen, Resident Evil)

of course there always the vainglorious ex angel of ceremony/celebration/and joy...lucifer. In this scenario of course you'd steer clear of the chracterizations/persona of the batwings, fangs, horns, hooves, red skin, spiked tail, forked toungue and just take the twisted fallen angel approach

    • Fantastic! Ideas already 😄
DP, the soul collector/collector of body parts thing sounds very nice and our mini chat on #Coldstone got me thinking, thanks (I'm thinking bodies on the wall, jeepers creepers style).
Ellrx, your idea is great and fits into my storyline almost perfectly... something a bit like Lisa from Res evil, im assuming you're suggesting? or maybe a twist on the kids in Akira... consumed by a power they cannot understand or control... mmm, very dark 😉

Please keep posting, I can imagine this being a very interesting thread!

      Cheers, Migraine.

When I'm looking for an interesting name or creature, I usually look there. Cerberus, perhaps?

    • I prefer my end bosses to be a litte more Lovecraftian, you know rend the fabric of space stuff, a gaint ooze or many tendraled/tentacled, multi-color, protophlasmic sort being that you can never be sure you a) killed, 🆒 sent back to whench to came, or c) just insured a sequel for your character.

    • How about you find your mother/father (depending on whose fault it was that you are a half-breed) down there - offing him/her would then neutralize the demonic blood in your veins and you would be able to live a happy well-adjusted life from that point on...

      or

Maybe the soiled earth in the cave could be the badguy Big earthy arms and a big earthy head pop out and try to do horrible things to you.

      or

You meet a mirror image of yourself.

      or

You see a man behind a curtain of somesort turning knobs and pushing buttons - he insists that you ignore the man behind the curtain...

Okay - looks like I've gone too far. That's it for now.

    • How about your own inner hatred/feelings of hate, disgust? Something like that. There could be some kind or oracle at the end of the passgae taht releases your inner evil, and you must overcome it to become completely human.

      Just a thought.

    • A dark, grimy pit of stenchy water, abode of a giant octopus-creature.
When you hit this creature a number of times, it collapses and lies vulnerable on the floor, with its weakpoint, a black sphere (which you can incorperate in the story or something.) facing out.
If you hit the black sphere, the creature dies.
Then from the sphere unfolds a huge, black bird, with demonic features, yet a swiftly shaped wingspan.
This bird flies round attacking you for a while, then when you hit it enough, it unfolds its wings. That is where the black sphere is.
You hit the sphere and the bird dies.
Now from the sphere unfolds a demonic titan, who proves the most difficult to dispatch.
But after you destroy him, he collapses and fades.
Then you take the black sphere.
Woopee game over. Out of the thousand tomb dead we go.

    • While reading this thread, I had approximately 15 amazing ideas for end-bosses, but I regained my sense by the time I hit 'Reply' and I'm using them in Epitheisterra. 😛

      ------------------
Consider. If passion rules our reasoning, and we are ruled by logic, we are all simply unwitting slaves to emotion, pretending to be greater than what we truly are.

    • Whenever I need inspiration, looking at what's successful om what has come before and figuring out how to "make it mine" usually turns up some good ideas.

With that in mind, my all-time favorite end-boss in a CRPG is...

"Dark Force" from the Phantasy Star series. Oh, wait, no, that's "most annoying end-boss turned plot device."

Actually, I think it would have to be Kefka from FF6. I know, kinda cheesy, but in this instance I can go, OK, Kefka is this huge antagonist for most of the game's story, which free association tells me that the end-boss is a familiar character.

Free association to 'familiar character' and maybe our end-boss is a demonic ancestor of your character, who swore long ago to protect this tomb/temple/whatever for eternity, and as such was given their powers by Cthulhu or whichever dark god; maybe they've now got tentacles for a mouth and as legs AND the ability to spawn nasty little tentacle monsters.

Another idea: if this is an ancestor of yours, some wierd time-warp could come into effect where you have to abstain from using a particular method of killing them, lest you set off a paradox that prevents you from ever being born. Maybe you have to kill off the monster part first or something.

      Or whatever, just brainstorming here.
