    • Coldstone-dev mailing list on Ambrosia's server

Andrew has created a mailing list for Coldstone on Ambrosia's servers.

      The address is: (url="http://"http://mail.ambrosiasw.com/mailman/listinfo/coldstone_dev")http://mail.ambrosia...o/coldstone_dev(/url)

The purpose of the mailing list is to provide an atmosphere for developers to exchange ideas, problems, and solutions to their Coldstone projects.

To join, go to the above list link and enter your information under the "Subscribe" heading.

Thanks for setting this up Andrew!

(edit) Entered in the 'how to join' info (/edit)

How does this differ from the purpose of these boards, out of curiosity?

Well, I don't know about you, but for me e-mail is infinitely faster and easier than a webboard.

I check my e-mail about a gazillion times a day(compared with only a bajillion for the webboards). When I'm at home and I log onto the internet on my spiffy keen 33.6 modem line, I rarely check the webboards. And it is at home that I do my coldstone work.

Anyways, the mailing list is meant to be an atmosphere conducive to discussing problems and solutions with coldstone projects. It is not meant to be a place for new people to make posts asking what Coldstone is, etc. It also isn't meant for people thinking about making a project to post questions about "can Coldstone do this?"

It is soley meant for people who are actively designing/creating a project with Coldstone to make posts asking questions or offering tips/solutions.

Yes the webboard can and is being used for this as well. But the dev list is merely another tool for developers. And like these boards, the list will live or die based on users willingness to use it.

I guess this is my concern - I've been a subscriber to delta-v for quite some time, and while its purpose is much like you describe here, the fact is that a large fraction of its traffic consists of 1) people asking questions about EV gameplay or "suggesting" new engine features, and 2) people flaming the people who asked said questions. I'm worried that coldstone-dev will go down the same road.

But hey, let's give it a chance, shall we? 🙂

Yeah, this is something I most definitely do not want to see. I've never moderated a mailing list that has been set up as Ambrosia's is, so I'm going to have to do some looking into what I can or can't do as far as moderation goes. But I plan on reading everything sent to it and clamping down really quickly on people mis-using or abusing the list. Pretty much if people start suggesting features, etc, then I will mail them directly asking them to use the webboard and keep the mailing list clean for development discussion. Again, we'll see how well this goes.
