Anyway, I just was curious about the process of bouncing connections around the world to slow traces. Is there any point where the effectiveness of this has diminishing returns? I can get a lot of links by snooping around every mission, and even though my rating is only 2, I already have a screen full of various computers with which to bounce connections. Should I really bother not deleting them and bouncing to every single one? It seems like this would get tedious really fast as the game goes on.

If you hack a server, therefore getting admin access, the trace will take longer once you bounce through it. Also, if you have an account such as one in a bank, it will take a little longer. I usually only bounce through my admin stuff and banks, along with other random machines. If the server I'm cracking is really tough, I'll bounce through almost everything on the map. You don't have to bounce through everything, but you do have to do it through a lot on hard missions.

There is no point in bouncing through excessive gateways, if you are doing simple missions you only need to bouce through a few, not the entire map. All that does is slow you down.

As the missions get harder, you may want to bounce through more, but now you don't need to.

I've noticed that after bouncing through an internal server that I've hacked an admin account on a few times, the admin account gets changed. Is there any way to prevent/postpone them changing the password?

Yes and No.

This is mentioned in the Help files at Uplink Internal Services. Basically it boils down to the fact that if you bounce through one of those servers a couple of times, the admins notice that the admin password is compromised and thus change it.

The only close thing you can do is to not route through that system often. Then you may lose the account due to a regular change of password but that's another issue. In the end, it doesn't matter that much as admin privs are very easy to get, assuming you have a Monitor Bypass.
