    • Coldstone Update?

I downloaded coldstone the hour it came out, then registered it not long after. Then, I lost my internet connection, spaced out for about 5 months, and now I'm back online, and I just noticed that I never got that CD they said they wouldd send.

Anyway, I was wondering what's new in coldstone. Particularly, is there any way in an event to change someone's class? Or how about an allies/enemies system? I'm really counting on both of those, among other things.

      Mr. Sage Aro,

      Welcome back.

For the CD problem I would recommend that you send an e-mail to help@ambrosiasw.com explaining that you did not receive the Coldstone CD. They have a database with everyone's information, and it should be easily verified that you purchased the software. I would think that they'd be more than happy to rush the CD out to you once they are notified of the problem.

There certainly should be. You should be able to simply use a change globals command to set the players &&Job;(or in the case of a plug-in to PoG that cooperates with Trinity, &&PlayerClass;). I haven't messed around with this yet but those are the 2 globals that seem to be associated with telling Coldstone what class the player is. Just change it to whatever you want it to be.

Sadly this has not been implemented yet. At least not in a very useable form. Hopefully a future update.

    • I'm not incredibly concerned about the CD (Though I do anticipate getting it straightened out incase there is anything on it that would interest me.) I'm just fine for graphics, and hopefully I can get connections with a digital composer.

Anyway, my game will have a great focus on replayability. Instead of chosing your class from a list, I intend to have an opening dialogue in which the player will specify his or her gender, and desire of class—then choses to be born as a spesific hero, developing into a story unto itself—which would also put a lot more muscle in plugin development.

Also, the whole thing is about a giant war, and you can't have a giant war without allies and enemies.

      Mr. Sage Aro,

Well, that isn't entirely accurate. You can have a giant war without computer controlled real-time allies. You could do the ally combat/aid entirely in the background story. Ie, while the player goes to make a raid on X village, the computer could be "busy" attacking another compound, or something. And when the player returns he hears about it. Things like that can be done off camera so that the player knows he has help, but he also has his own missions that he has to do all on his own.

I would agree that many games would be much better if there was an ally system in place that was useable.

    • Yes, definately. I mean, that was the way it always was in RPGs. In Final Fantasy VIII, there was some massive battle where all you really did was bark orders, run past a cinematic of a large and bloody melee, then confronted the enemy's leader.

On the other hand, I'm also reminded of Seiken Densetsu 3, where you would become involved in all of the big battles and invasions—but no one else would. Even the enemy soldiers were for passive NPC use only. It would be nice to kill some townsperson in battle because you can get away with it, or to have to keep up with your comrades to keep them from being killed. That adds an awful lot to a game.

      Hah! You're a sick puppy. 😛

Just kidding. In reality I doubt that this will ever be allowed, at least directly. Since allies are on your side, I would expect that if you targeted them it would simply just open up the normal dialog box so that you would be able to talk to them(exchange melee banter perhaps?). However, if you had an offensive spell that had "allies" as its target, then in theory you would be able to decimate your friends through this. But if(hopefully when) the ally system gets implemented, don't hold your breath for the ability to attack your allies regardless of how "cool" or "twisted" this may be. 🙂

    • No, I'm thinking more along the lines of have a bunch of ironclads without the iron using the 'abject coward' script when a town is under seige.

Oh, and just call me Aro. I only put the sage there because I put down my swords to learn about the history of my people—and most forums won't let you have a three-letter name.
