    • [ATTN] PoG TCs are possible!

Just a few minutes ago, I was browsing through the Trinity source. I wanted to find out how bows from the original game made changes to the character based on his class, such as changing the player's graphic based on which class he was. Bows which are added in a plug-in can do this, but the original PoG shouldn't be able to, as it didn't have the multiple classes which are added in Trinity

After looking long and hard at the items within Trinity, I noticed that there were several items in Trinity which had the exact same name as a few items in the original PoG—but Trinity had never crashed on my machine. After a bit of thought and testing, I came to the obvious conclusion, which is:

The Golden Rule of Coldstone Plug-ins
Any document (such as an item document, event document, spell document, etc.) which you add in a plug-in will override any documents from the original game, as long as they are of the same name and type.

The assumption used to be that any documents which had the same name as a document from the original game would send conflicting information, thus crashing the computer. This is not true; the document from the plug-in will actually replace the one from the original game! This means that something PoG players have been hungering for ever since the release of Coldstone is finally possible: TCs for PoG. TCs will still require as much effort for PoG as they do for EV Nova, but at least now we know that it can be done.

I believe that this rule will even work on other plug-ins, as long as your plug-in is loaded after the one you're modifying (Plug-ins are loaded spearately and in alphabetical order).

TC stands for "Total Conversion", which is a term used by EV fans for a plug-in that replaces the original game's entire world, letting the player play, essentially, an entirely different game, but not having to pay for the game.

Anyone wishing to create a Total Conversion for PoG, please remember this. You will be creating a different game, as Cafall said. You can create the same effect with an entirely new ColdStone game. Making it a plug for PoG really has no advantages. Edit: use this for smaller changes instead, such as new graphics sets, etc.

There are plenty of other things you can do with this—such as making Trinity modifications without having to distribute a full recompile.

    • Celchu - A TC is indeed a lot of work... But one thing a TC has that a new game hasn't got is a FANBASE!
Spreading a new game is a lot harder then spreading a TC POG plugin. A lot of people alreayd have POG, and if you keep the filesize small enough will download the TC, at least to try it out..

And Cafall, TC is total conversion in any game 🙂

      Oh, and-
