    • what about the side scrollers ? .......


      Hey coldstone is a incredible Rpg maker but what i really want to do is make a nice side scrolling platformer game, like casltevaina, mario bros, metal slug, ferazel's wand ... ect. you might say that those types of games are dead but i disagree, many games have there roots in platform games and are simply ruined when they make the jump to 3d. any ways is there a program that will let me do that on my mac? thanks in advance.

      Is there any reason why you couldn't make a map that had a fixed north/south height that corresponded to the resolution you wanted people to play with, and a long east/west width. This would make it so you would not be ablt to move north or south(which could also be blocked off through the use of access tiles) and would force a player to a east/west directional.

      Pretty much all you would need are graphics and what you want the player to be able to do. But I would think the game engine itself could/would handle it.

      I do recall this topic being discussed before, and I think there are some people working on side scrollers. Might do a search on the topic.

    • You might have a hard time trying to get a good 'jump' and 'drop' effect, I can't think of a way to get the player to fall off ledges using the coldstone tileset system...

      of course you could go for smaller motion tiles say 16pixels or maybe 8,
      create an avent
      so that when the player goes 8 pixels past the ledge it plays an animation of the player falling, and moves them down, and subsequently kills the player
      artificial gravity,
      if you use this system for jumping in reverse you will get a FF7 type platform deal, which is safe from free fall, thus defeating the purpose...
      jumping ---> haven't thought of anything for that,

    • yeah the whole jumping thing is what has me puzzled. it would kick so much ass if ambrosia make a engine for side scrollers .....

      What's the deal? If I go to the Schwin store to buy a bike I don't complain because it doesn't have a 250 horsepower engine on it. It was made to be a quality bicycle. Nothing more nothing less. So, it is with the Coldstone engine. It does what it says. RPG gaming. 🙂 Give them a break!

    • this thread is not ment to knock the cold stone engine in any way. it is a incredible engine, and when i said ambrosia should make a side scrolling engine i did not mean anything bad agnest cold stone, just that it is a RPG engine and mabie is not versatle enough to do sidescrolling games cuz thats not what it was ment to do. at lest i could not figure out how to do it, thats why i made this post. get it ???

    • I believe that RealBasic may be the best option for this....you might check idevgames.com and see what people are using for making side scrollers and platformers (which I assume is what you really mean, since you mentioned Mario and Castlevania). I think you may find that people have already made code samples available to do a lot of what you might want.

      If you REALLY wanted to use Coldstone, I'm sure you can, but the way I'm thinking of is very extreme...

      I'm thinking make a stamp action for every movement tile and using conditionals and the player x / player y globals to determine which stamp action to do. Have a fixed width and height for each level and you can use the same events over for each level. Tell me if you don't understand me.

    • Metal is a BASIC metacompiler. You write text files in BASIC code and it can execute it or make an application out of it. At (url="http://"http://www.idevgames.com")idevgames(/url) you can find other BASIC compilers like TNT BASIC, which is shareware but made specifically for games.

    • has anyone thought of a way tojump yet, (i assume simply using a keydown event that triggered an animation and moved the character would workbut what about directional jumping and varied distances?)
