      Hi!

      I've written a small tutorial which explains a couple of tricks (not adventure-oriented but learn-to-use-Coldstone-oriented), I've "learned" in a week of playing around with Coldstone :).

    • Hey Alois! Your tutorial is pretty good! I've found a few errors or places where it could be made a little more specific, but over all, it's very good. If i get the time, I'll post some recommendations, but I'm too tired now.

      I've run into a couple of problems trying to make your tutorial work. One involves the map overlay picture and the other involves making the square stay open prior to doing the 'trap the player' stuff in your tutorial.

      I can make the map overview display the correct view in the game....sort of....but this requires that I push my tab key twice to make the correct picture be displayed; or I can click on the compass icon which displays the incorrect picture but if I then use my mouse to click in the picture itself it will change to the correct view that should be displayed.

      In both of the above cases, when I get the correct picture to display, the white x that represents the player location in the picture goes away!

      If I try to use the M key on my keyboard to display the picture, only the incorrect closed square picture is ever shown.

      This does not happen with the Boberus city map display overwiew- everything works out like you intended with that. So the problem only seems to be when I am in the 'Test Map'.

      The second problem is that even after doing all of the steps outlined by you up to the section that starts the 'Let's have some fun and trap the player' stuff, if I open the square like you instructed, then leave and go to Boberus city and then come back, the square is closed again and will not open even though I followed your instructions on how to correct this problem.

      Has anyone else indicated similar problems?

      I am running a G3 with OS9.1.

      I'm going to try and use your tutorial on my powerbook at home and see if I have the same results. If I can make it work there, then I may have encountered either a G3 OS9.1 specific bug problem, or it could simply be my G3 does not like your tutorial 🙂 Your tutorial instructions are quite clear on what to do so I'm reasonably sure that I'm not doing anything wrong that would cause these results. I'll be interested to find out if others have run into similar problems trying to follow your tutorial.

      As for the map problem, a possible idea is to see which event is called upon a) clicking on the compass, 🆒 pressing the 'tab' key, c) pressing the 'm' key; maybe I only told you to change one of the three events :frown:

(To be honest, after I discovered that I was mistaken about the square problem, I would actually feel better if someone else was to confirm they are having the same problem as me with the map overview. 😕

      Well, I've checked the tutorial, and everything works fine for me (on a G3). The correct map shows up when I click on (tab,m,compass); anyway, I've received an email by someoneelse stating that the same problem (more precisely, the disappearing of the 'x' on the map) happened; thus there shouldbe something wrong somewhere. I guess that, when repeating the tutorial, you started with a new 'medieval' setting every time... or not?

      Anyway, keeping into account that I sometimes have some problem after launching a game which worked well before (sometimes CS 'loses' the links to the game interfaces and such), I suggest to do the following: change (by adding) a global variable, or fiddle around with the game options; save and launch the program (it should 'rebuild' the engine), and see if the problem still persists

      Okay, I'll try doing a build release menu command rather than just using a launch command after doing all the steps up to and including the map overiew and see if this corrects the problem.

      By the way, did you create this tutorial using the demo of coldstone or a registered copy and are you using a downloaded version of the engine or a copy off the CD?

      A registered copy, using the download version (the CD has not yet arrived). Please tell me if you manage to solve the problem 🙂

      Solved part of the problem. I figured out why the white x for the player symbol was not showing up. In your tutorial where you have us add the map display event action and set it to show the new test changed map.....at the very top there is also a box for player symbol.
      The picture box said none and the window beside it was blank. I had to select the x from the game interface picture selection. X problem solved. Still no luck on the other part but I sent off a message to support@ambrosiasw.com for help so hope to hear from them soon.

      I find that even with the frustrations of the problems I am running into, it is still alot of fun playing around with Coldstone. Can't wait till my CD gets here and my reg code so I can expand on what I am messing around with. Thanks again for all your help. I'll let you know what I hear from Support, if anything.

      Thus it was my fault, after all... :frown: As soon as I'll have time, I'll work on a revised version of the tutorial (with maybe new tricks :))
