What music formats will Coldstone support? Also, anyone know what format the music for POG is being done in? Thanks.

sigh We really need to update the faq.
Coldstone will read anything Quicktime or PlayerPro will read. This includes MP3, AIFC, MAD*, MOD, etc. Early versions of the CGE used only the Player Pro tracked formats, so I would guess PoG's music was done in a tracker, likely Player Pro if it was done on a Mac.

NICE!! OK, well once CS comes out, I'll be available to do music for people's games...MIDIs are probably the best. I know they're not that advanced, but they take up VERY little space and are great for games like the ones made in Coldstone. Also, I don't think you'll find very many people with the tools to do professional quality MP3s or AIFF files such as the ones in Ferazel. Maybe I'm wrong, I don't know this community very well. But since so many of you already have plots and stuff planned out for your games, I'd be glad to write MIDIs for them, as long as you give me credit in the final product. I've done MIDIs for a bunch games you've probably never heard of :), such as "Death Trap 2001," "Eminent Realms," and the OBW project (see ferazel hacking boards). You can email me at zlateh@aol.com.

I'm sorry to report that PlayerPro formats support has been removed. It still plays anything Quicktime support.

Thanks for the update, Dee. I would presume this is in part due to an incompatibility with the PPro library and OS X or Windows? Anyrate, I won't miss them. Anyone who uses Player Pro to make music with can still export to AIFF and then encode to MP3 though.

Well that knocks out some of the competition.

If you have any decent amount of money, getting a real synth will get you a lot more quality over your typical midi setup. This also has the advantage of being able to add music done on 'real' instruments in... (ie, electric guitar is in easy one) just my 2 cents.

Basically, you need to get a musician if you want professional quality music, preferrably someone that can do things that will fit with the style of your game.

Was that directed at me? I am a musician.

No, it was directed at the people out there who are going to attempt to put remixes of Brittany Spears songs in their Coldstone games. I'm not even kidding.

Ugh, that could be bad in more ways than one. Use of copyrighted material in coldstone games could lead some money-hungry lawyer to sue Ambrosia, whether they had anything to do with it or not. Please. No one do that.

OK, I know what you mean. Bad creativity is better than a good remix.

Ugh, or worse off, someone could re-use music from a Final Fantasy game.... not that the music itself is not quality or anything, it's just wrong.

I agree, and it's also illegal. Don't worry, we'll see a lot of it.
