    • serial numbers?

If a user decides to distribute a CS game as shareware, does CS have a built-in serial number generator, or is a third-party app or service necessary?

    • That's a good question...
      Does it?

    • It does not really matter what serial generator it uses, our games won't be safe unless 'surfers serials' is stopped

Yes, you most certainly can distribute your game as shareware.

I'm not sure on this, and I'm also not sure if I can say what little I know. Perhaps Andrew would chime in?

    • Yes, serial surfer is a pain. As long as we make shareware games that use a simple number, even a name based number, we're open to people who crack the code and spread it to as many people as they possibly can.

I don't know how they crack such codes...

...And I don't know why they would go to the trouble to distribute them.

Why? For recognition and a sense of accomplishment in an otherwise useless existence. Why? Why do people spend hundreds, thousands, millions climbing Everest, hot air ballooning around the world, buying a Jeep or SUV and tearing up deserts, buying trail bikes or mountain bikes for the same purpose, use drugs and kill for the money, write viruses and worms... Seek gangs, Fascist Gurus, use the 'power tool' known as 'gas impelled projectile launcher'...

Or just 'hooked on' the 'rush'...

In the end though, we all go back to being 'who we really are', and there is nothing more to attempt.
