      If this Builder had Multiplayer support it would make it one of the best Game builders out there. Games without Multiplayer support (client/server) so get boring and old. When you can build a game and have your friends play it with you there is nothing better then that.

    • Then I guess you're SOL. IMO, RPGs are not really playable online. I just don't like playing anything other then myth, starcraft, and unreal tournament online anyways. Diablo and Nox aren't really RPGs, they are adventure games.

    • RPGS arent playable online? Thats the first news I have heard of that. Role Playing is where you assume a the Role of a persona, you can do that on pen and paper or in a single mode game, as well as a Online RPG.

      Dont you think it would be fun to Share a game you created with someone else while in the game at the same time?

      Why would I be SOL? Theres plenty of MMORPGs out there to play. All I was saying is if this Builder was Multiplayer it would really rock, even more so then it does now.

    • I disagree with both first posts. For extreme's multiplayer observation: Baldur's Gate 2 never got boring for me, I still haven't figured out how to make multiplayer work for it.

      As for Darkblade's: Diablo IS an rpg. I've fought many chat battles with baldur's gate fans about this, and won them all. First of all we have to ask ourselves, "What is an RPG?" Technically, RPG means roleplaying game. This can be broadened to include, say, MarioKart because in Mariokart you control a racer and play their role in some race. We could also include DOOM 2 Hell on Earth because in Doom 2 you take on the role of some guy in green with a helmet and run around brutally slaughtering people, trying to get rid of a demonic presence or some such nonsense. I think we'd all agree that Diablo comes a lot closer to the "expected" RPG than either of the examples, but technically they ARE in fact RPGs. The title RPG doesn't really work when describing typical fantasy "rpg's", mainly because every game can be an RPG. It just depends on who's playing.
      Diablo is an RPG because you take on the role® of a sorcerer, rogue, or warrior, and play(P) that role in eradicating demons and freeing Tristram of an evil scourge. Diablo is a game(G) and not real, but you can still get into it and play the role.
      I don't wanna hear anyone accusing Diablo of not being an RPG when it is impossible for any game not to be an RPG. I think we have to redefine the term RPG before we can call some games rpg's and some not.

    • Yes, maybe I should have phrased it different. I played baldurs as well in single player and it was fun. I guess what Im getting at is if you have a world builder that supports multiplayer then it will never end. When friends, players even yourself get close to the end of the map you can just add a new segment to you world, add new NPCs, quests, lairs.

      A never ending world in multiplayer would be fun.

    • I don't really care about what RPG stands for because you can easily twist the words to mean anything you want. Jeez, Warcraft II could be considered an RPG because you take the persona of an overlord watching over his little domain. For me, an RPG is best defined by examples:
      Chrono Trigger
      Secret of Mana
      Final Fantasy
      shudderPokemon
      Look at the type of gameplay that those games provide and I think that is what the original inventors of the term RPG meant.

    • I have seen Crono and Mana, not bad games at all. I think your still missing my point about a multiplayer option. Everyone has a different view on what RPG really stands for, different age groups evolve therefore its a different explaination for everyone.

      All Im saying is if the builder had MP support it would open a door to a new kind of RPG that could be designed by you, maintained by you and run by you. Your friends and family could share your experience with you at the same time. Imagine meeting your brother or buddy and going on a quest in a world you built. That would be alot of fun.

    • well even though this strays away from the coldstone topic, I just want to let you know of a game that might be just perfect for you extreme.
      Neverwinter Nights.
      It's not out for PC yet, and I doubt the mac will see it. But if you're like me and have a pc and a mac(or 2, multiplayer starcraft, you understand) then you should get it when you can. Neverwinter Nights is mainly meant for online playing, but isn't in a huge constant world like Everquest. The reason for this is that the players will be allowed to create their own games and worlds with it, and thus making a constant world almost impossible. I intend on getting it, and as a bonus it allows you to import BG2 characters into it. Neverwinter Nights follows some AD&D; rules(I don't know which, and frankly can't tell the difference anyway).
      I'm sorry for "wasting" people's time with a non-coldstone topic, but I just wanted to help extreme.

    • Thanks.. I have taken a look at it and it does look very cool. There will of course be a few things missing that Coldstone has, originality. with CS you can make your game they complete way you want it, NWNs will be a world that you can edit. Thanks again 🙂

    • Multiplay would make ColdStone step up into nirvana. Even not online mp would make it alot more fun(though i debt that so many exept me would use it). Take this game, Graal(www.GraalOnline.com(only for pc)) the world is crappy built, the graphics isn't so good etc. etc. but its free and online so it is always far more than hundreds of people that play on the general server. If CS(NOT Counter-Strike) gets online-mp, far more rpg will be made and far more people will purchase CS.

    • I assure you, a lot of people will purchase coldstone regardless. I am a beta tester for it and this is one of the easiest and greatest products I have ever seen.

      There are a few problems with this. First, the amount of coding nesesary(sp) to allow multiplayer Coldstone games would be ridiculous. Second, who would host such a game? Not Ambrosia. Hell, they might not even give webspace for downloading Coldstone games, much less bandwidth for hosting multiplayer games. Think about it.

      There is indeed alot of coding to be done to make it Multiplayer. If it was MP anyone could host it. You wouldnt need a Huge server and Huge bandwidth to host a server.       Its still in the process of being built but once its done it will rock.

    • Online RPGs rules!, I can't wait till Shadowbane gets out, and if Coldstone would support the creation of Online and/or Multiplayer games it would be sooo awsome. Right now there isn't that many Online RPGs for mac, we got Clanlord,Oberin now. And Lance, Shadowbane comming soon, im in beta for all of em, mwhahahhaa. On the poll for new features Multiplayer support is very high (if not in the lead)...atleast last time I checked.

    • extreme: I try to make intelligient posts and strive to be a respectable member of this community, sometimes I try to lighten the mood by adding a bit of humour in my posts but this does in no way make me inmature.

      There will be no multiplayer CGE (to the best of my knowledge), it would require rewriting the engine from scratch. That makes no sense considering we are testing b2 right now.

      Also guys, the distribution issue seems to be quite serious. I am wondering, if we do not work with ASW on our projects then how will we distribute them? I doubt many of us have the knowledge or resources to purchase and maintain a server (or get web hosting with sufficient bandwidth, a gigabyte really doesn't go along way when your game is 100+ mbs.) The best solution I have found is netcolony.com but seriously, I don't think that you will be able to get very good download speed from there. Maybe the only solution is to make sure ASW wants your game? If they don't then you might need to resort to burning your own cds

    • As for multiplayer support, I'm all for it. Although I will buy Coldstone regardless, this would be, in my opinion, a very worthy feature. Perhaps it is too late, because, as you suggested, the game IS in beta 2, and many fans are eager for its release. I'm one of them. However, perhaps this could be an add-on or extended engine for the game.

      As for the coding, I'm no programmer, but I doubt it would require so much of a change that you must rewrite the whole engine. Online games are not cutting edge; I remember an online RPG from Bungie several years back (1996 maybe?). The name fails me. They had nowhere near the edge available today, so it is possible. It consisted of a dungeon romp in which you could collect items and then battle your friends simultaneously. Even a primitive multiplayer engine such as this would suffice many needs, although many hope for something more sophisticated.

      Considering server space, one should not worry when the game is not complete. Multiplayer could be perhaps only hosted on a LAN, or pier-to-pier computer connections. Even with plans for server space (which I approve), it would not be impossible. There are MANY hosts on the web, some free, others charge, but none are out of reach. Even Ambrosia could cash in with its own hosting service plan. Since all will be buying Coldstone, it's not as if anyone here is without cash. Ambrosia could easily expand to offer hosting services for various needs, at different costs. Please keep an open mind to these suggestions.
