You may have noticed that the person who was Night-Killed at the end of last round was the very same person who was voted off. Some of you may be asking "Why did the Dictators kill the same person they were Lynching?"
We didn't.
As me and my compatriots were preparing to turn in for the night, we wrote a set of instructions for the Host, considering that we were unlikely to be present at the end of the round.
Since both the Intelligence Agent and the Necromancer had been outed to us in a single round, and since the I.A. was in a dead-heat with one of our own in the vote, we were not sure who was going to be lynched last night and we were not able to stay up all night to watch the turnout of the vote. So, we left instructions with the host to cover the possibility of the vote shifting. We labeled jrsh92 as the target in the event that he was not lynched, and we labeled egroeg as the target in the event that jrsh92 was lynched.
When we woke up and saw the results of the round (namely, that jrsh92 was both night-killed and lynched), we attempted to ask the Host why our instructions weren't followed, and it was then that we were informed that he was not allowing us to put our own conditions on our night kills. We would not have objected to this had we been informed of this at the start of the game. But, it is not something we were informed of at the start of the game and it is not in keeping with our understanding of what hosts have done in previous GTW games. So, we had no reason to believe that we couldn't place conditions on our night-kills.
At the same time that the Host informed us that we could not place our own conditions on night-kills, we were further informed of another rule he had in place, but did not inform us about, that if the night-kill target was lynched, then the person with the second-most votes is night-killed instead. While we are grateful that the Host did not exercise the rule this round on account of the fact that one of our compatriots had the second-highest vote total (and would normally have resulted in night-killing a terrorist), we do not appreciate the fact that we were not informed of this rule at the beginning of the game, as we feel that this is an even greater departure from what previous GTW hosts have done and has a significant impact on which strategies we employ.
We further contend that the Host did not make any attempts to inform us that these were issues. We received no messages prior to the end of the round to the effect of "Hey guys, I just got your PMs. You're not allowed to place your own conditions on your night-kills, so I will need you to make up your minds one way or the other as soon as possible. Please try to get back to me." Nor did we receive any messages to the effect of "Letting you place conditions on your night-kills seems overpowered to me. I'll need to confer with other GTW hosts on this and get back to you. In the meantime, please try to make up your minds one way or the other." We, in fact, received no messages at all that this might be an issue. If the Host had attempted to contact us as soon as possible before the end of the round and had to act on his own anyway because he couldn't get a response from us in time, then we might have been more willing to continue. As it stands, however, we were not contacted.
In conclusion, after conferring amongst ourselves, we, the dictators in this game of GTW, have decided that we no longer wish to continue participating in this game as we feel that the rules of the game have been changed on us unreasonably and without warning. We also realize that this action spoils the game for the other players, for which we deeply apologize, but we feel that it is necessary. We also apologize for springing this decision on Rickton without warning, but we do not feel that we can continue under the present conditions.
We thank the other players for their participation in this game of GTW. With the exception of the dispute as described above, we found this game to be a fun game and hope that it was also fun for everyone else thus far. We hope to see you all again in Game 21.
