    • Another Sketch Map

I'v Been working on this level for a while, And it is not yet done. Here.

    • I'm sorry, but the site is not loading here.

    • Yeah, i noticed that too. Not sure why it's happening. I'll use ASW's attachment system.

      Attached File Wasteland_of_chaos.zip (73.65K)
      Number of downloads: 5

It's just easier to use QSI. Usually.

    • Awesome map conelight!

    • The Good:

      • I like your technique for switching between zones. My only suggestion for improving them would be to add inward-pointing force fields on the sides inside the walls to prevent the player from colliding with the walls.

      • The arrangement of enemies seems perfect. It's a bit denser than the original game, but that simply raises the difficulty level to "non-trivial".

      • The layout of the level is hard to judge right now, as you haven't put in any of the major powerups, bosses, etc. that will give the level an order, but it looks like it will have a decent amount of needing to remember where things are in previous zones.

      • I like that little gun emplacement in the beginning of the Volcano with the two fixed MEGA Guns. (But then, I always like it when someone includes a non-standard enemy or two.)

      The Bad:

      • The level is quite easy- I got through the entire accessible part, including the Beam Gun, on a single life, without ever getting worried that I might not make it. However, it looks like you'll be making up for that by including some interesting exploration.

      The Bugly:

      • In the second Wasteland-Factory transition, the force fields that go back to the Factory are to close to the wall, and drag the player along the wall.

      • There are quite a few AI-less Small Blobs in the Volcano.

      • The Ice Caves door is misaligned with its frame.

      • You forgot to set the tiled flag on the Factory-Forest transition background.

      • Some of the sprites you use as scenery in the Forest are Player-type rather than Solid-type. This will cause problems if enemies ever bump into these sprites.

Overall, great level! I look forward to seeing it completed (and if you want a beta tester, I'm available).

      Edwards

    • Oh Yes, Beta testers are welcome if anybody Would like to. Edwards, Your on the job.
And the bugly will probably be fixed in next version.

    • You know, you might have wanted to check the date of the last post before adding your own. Nobody has posted in this thread in more than 6 months! Posting in a thread whose last post is more than one month old is considered gravedigging, and generally frowned upon, unless you have a good reason to "dig it back". So, it's okay this time since you're new, but please don't do it again, m'kay? 🙂

    • I always wondered the purpose of that rule. What would classify as a good reason to dig it back? Entirely out of interest.

    • That rule is in place for several reasons:
      - gravedinning topics tend to confuse people, for instance people might have thought conelight was back
      - (more relevant to forums like the BnB, but still applicable here) the people who posted in the thread at the time may have changed since then, and they may have matured or no longer hold these opinions, so bringing up their old posts in today's context may not be a good idea.
      - more often than not a gravedug topic is just noise among the current ones

A good reason to dig back would have to be good enough to overcome these drawbacks, use your judgment. An example of a good reason is if the original topic was about a serious problem which was left unsolved, and you found a solution (of course, check that the problem isn't obsolete, and that a solution wasn't posted elsewhere). Also, some topics are exempt from the no-gravedigging rule, of course.
