    • As he enters the barren board...

      10 12 1530

Anyone still play Avara? Just wondering if it would be possible for a different group of developers to create a new Avara, programmed in OSX and ported to the rest of the universe.

Sometimes I must wonder: Am I a student developer, or am I Mac techno weenie with half a CS degree?

Apparently they do - I just played a game a couple of days ago, and there were a couple of servers up on the tracker.

You could always make the game, wether or not you could call it "Avara" is something you'd have to discuss with Andrew Welch and Juri Munkki.

    • I play Avara sometime, but I play EV more. I would like to make more levels but making levels are too hard, and puting the levels into the game are harder.

    • EV games are much better I think.

    • moonunit4eva: Then go post your praise of a P.O.S. game elsewhere... This is an Avara board, EV has enough of it's own webboards without having people come in here bashing Avara and saying EV is better.

I, for one, still play Avara, and love the game to death. I would also be happy if somone took initiative and made Avara OSX compatible. But, as I've explained on thie board time and time again, Avara won't be ported by Ambrosia because it will not bring them a profit, so why pay somone to port it? If someone does it for free, then ya, it might happen.

    • KM, your not supposed to give the link out for that since it is still only an alpha version and still has at least one major bug in it.(Note to Juri if he reads this, The cursor needs to be recentered when ever the look forward key is pressed.)

I will respect you for not calling EV a piece of ****. Although I'm sure you don't appreciate comments on how good EV is, there is no reason for calling the best game on the mac bad, just because it doesn't suit you.

I have only played Avara a couple of times and I never really enjoyed it, but I don't think it's a 'bad' game. I just couldn't get into it, but I'm sure it's worked for other people.

      Keep it real.

    • Multiplayer games are inherently more interesting than single player games because, no matter how complex the single player game is, you are always playing against artificial intelligence rather than real intelligence of other human beings. In Avara, you actually have to outsmart your opponent to win. In EV, you can completely manipulate the AI and destroy even the most powerful of battleships with the weakest trade vessels, time and time again. Don't get me wrong, EV is fun for a while, but in reality, it's no more complicated than a simple text RPG. You may say that EV Plug-ins add more to the game, yet the same applies to a much greater extent in Avara with level sets. Avara is much more of an immersion. When you play Avara, you get a feel for the environment around you and acquire skills much as you would in an intense sport. EV is more like reading a book.

Avara is unique and sometimes frustrating and confusing to new players Thats because Avara involves so much skill that you can't just enter into it and expect to dominate immediately. So I'm not suprised that so many people like you hold the misconception that Avara is not as completely awesome as it really is... you haven't really experienced Avara until you play an intense game of Vatnajokull or Animosity with 5 other players on the internet.
