      can't use armor

I just beat the Yard level and as soon as the docter said I could use the armor, Darwinia Crashes. I go back in and I can't use or research armor! The levels beat i cant reset it. I draw the gestures for the armor and he says i cant use it yet. What do I do??

    • Reset the level and try again.

    • It sounds like you're going to need to edit your game.txt file. Could you open it up (instructions for decrypting it are here) and tell me what the Research Armour entry says?

    • Um, i tried the instructions but I think i must have missed something. What's a ruby converter and how do you mark a .rb file executable? For me, .rb makes the text file a REALbasic file, completely corrupted.

I am using a G4 mac, if that helps.

      1. Open up a terminal window. If you have a standard OS X install, the 'Terminal' executable should be in /Applications/Utilities/ .
      2. At the prompt, type 'cd (directory)', where (directory) is the folder where you have saved redshirt2.rb. For instance, if I have saved the script in the folder 'Documents' in my home directory, I would type 'cd Documents' or 'cd /Users/MyUserName/Documents'.
      3. At the prompt, type 'chmod u+x redshirt2.rb'. chmod changes premissions on files. u+x allows the u ser who owns the file to e x ecute that file. If it is in your directory, you should own it, though you can check this by typing 'ls -l'. This will give you a listing of all of the documents in the directory, and tell you who the owner is (third column).

That should do it. From there, you can execute the script by typing './redshirt2.rb -(d|e) encryptedfile.txt' at the prompt when you are in the directory where you are storing the script.

    • Everything worked out fine until the last part where I typed in ./redshirt2.rb -(d|e) game.txt and it told me that e) was not recognized. Did I spell it wrong or what?

    • He means use either -d or -e. -d being decrypt and -e being encrypt I'd expect. The (|) thing is standard notation for a required parameter, and either one or the other.

    • Its still not working. I type everything in correctly and press enter but the terminal simply jumps down a line and nothing happens. Redshirt2.rb and the game.txt file are both in the documents but the game.txt file doesn't appear

    • Try this (from the directory with both game.txt and redshirt2.rb):

      ./redshirt2.rb -d game.txt >> game_decrypt.txt

      To parse the entire thing:

./redhirt2.rb runs the ruby script. This assumes that the script is executable, and that it is in the current dirctory

-d tells the script that you are decoding the file

game.txt is the file that you are decoding

directs the output of the script to a file. The script is set up to take encrypted data from a file, and spit it out onto the terminal. The two greater than signs will take that output and append it to the end of a file.

game_decrypt.txt is the name of the file that will be appended. If it does not exist, it will be created, otherwise the new text will appear at the end.

Once you have done this, there should be a new file named 'game_decrypt.txt' which will contain the decrypted data.

    • Still not working. The file called game_decrypt.txt appeared but it had no data in it whatsoever. Do I need the file to be a ruby converter file? Because I don't think I have a 'ruby converter'

    • Open up 'games.txt'... is there anything there? Is the first thing in the file 'redshirt2'? I am just about out of ideas here... sorry 😞

    • Yes, and Yes. Theres a whole bunch of letters and numbers too.

Okay, why don't you post that game.txt file here. I will see what I can do with it.

    • Okay, I have attached the original decrypted file. If you scroll to the bottom, you should see a block that looks like this:

      Buildings_EndDefinition

      Research_EndDefinition

In the line that reads 'Research Armour 0 9', change it to 'Research Armour 0 1'.

This will give you level 1 armour, with 0 research points applied toward it. I am not quite sure how you ended up with 9 levels of research... At any rate, once you have made the changes, save the file and put it back into ~/Library/Application Support/... and call it 'game.txt'. You should not need to re-encrypt it.
