    • EV/EVO Chronicles: The Last of the Aragons-Ring 1

When the UN clones drove several billion humans into the Centauri systems, there were 100 yr.s of peace, then there were power struggles. The Centauri govenment came out on top, however, the Lothian continued to swallow up Independent systems. At one time, they even cloned 3,000 clones to help with one particular race. This is the story of their last...

A burnt man began to read the chronicles that he had began to write only one week ago. His eyes were filled with sadness as the story began to develop, and to feel the pain that he had felt with this mission:
'Day 1: Mssin 23 Capture of Aragon station-
      Captain Perlien
This day I was given new orders for my ship. Even though we are a transport, I am given a chance to be promoted to a captain of better. All I have to do is aid the general of the clone unit in capture of Aragon station. I have read up on their history to be able to better understand their tactics. This is what I have found-Aragon Station is the homeworld of the Aragon. As exiles, they became one of the first Centauri Empires to acquire more land. Their constitution is believed to have been copied off of the American Constitution.
Unforunately, they allowed slavery- which proved their down fall. The first gov. of the Lothians had declared war and freed the slaves that traced their roots back to ancient enemies of the Aragons. However, as the Lothians exumed over half of their empire, their gov. changed into a tyrrany. Thus they now only had one station left. Even the slaves were willing to fight for them. Out of curiosity, I traced back the crew's lineage, and found that my first mate was really a member of the royalty of these people. I hoped she wouldn't change her loyalty, if she knew.
Even the clones had Aragon blood in them, but they had been genetically enhanced to follow orders. Anyway, today will be one of the last for the Aragons-
Day 2:mssin 23 Capture of Aragon station-
Nothing very exciting happened today. Tomorrow we take on the Aragons.
Day 3:mssin 23 Capture of Aragon station-
Today, I found myself in orbit around Aragon station. The 500 clones aboard my ship, had the help of 30 out of my 50 crew. I put on my helmet, and geared myself according to soldier fashion. By the time my whole crew was suited, we looked like clones. We each had a trooper rifle, and I had a Laser Saureier Firer in belt. That was the only difference from my crew. We had the white body armor. It would reflect any shots from a handgun, but not from anything heavy. I once saw an old Star Wars film. I thought that we looked very much like their star troopers. By the time we were suited up, the only difference between us and the troops was "ship personell" planted on our chests, and the fur cape draped around us.
I conferred with the general as we left with in the shuttle crafts. "Gen. Robert, what's the plan?"
"Well, it's shaped like one of them old stations. It has a needle with two rings around it. On the second one is the port, we'll blast that open with the ship's lasers. When that happens, we'll land inside and make a forcefield to protect from oxygen escaping. No doubt my army will engage them in deadly crossfire, for them." He set out a hologram now, not big, just an adequate map of the station, "Now, while we push them back into the needle, here, through the main hallway, you will secure the other hallways and blast all but one entryway." He pointed to a small, lighter hallway, "That's where you and your crew will come down and attack the last defenders of the control room. Remember that if you lose the holo," he said handing it to me, "the hallway entrance reads-c1-32. Got it?"
      "Aye."
"Good, one last thing. There is a civilian ship, no doubt loaded with the women and children, secure that. It's on the second port on the upper ring. It can't take off, because that port has been sealed. Here we go!"
I had not realised that during the long course of conversation, we had reached the port. In fact, I had missed the firing of the ship, and now the general and his army ran into deadly fire. My men all leaped out. The clones were showing them their own blaze of fire, which proved to be more effective. However, their valour didn't last for long, as a disabled patrol ship fired a rocket into out forcefield. If it was taken out, we would be sucked into space...

"Captain, divert from plan. Take out patroller and proceed." the order came through his helmet, as he tried to rally his clones in the fight he even believed lost.
"Come on!" I said into my helmet and waved my hands, "General, direct your crossfire away from the patroller." almost instantly the crossfire was directed at that object. The fire fell onto the enemies, who in turn backed into the second entrance and dug themselves in. That blocked my way out. The rockets wizzed past my head as we climbed over the deserted defences and bodies. One wounded man grabbed me and pointed his weapon at me, "Goodbye Lothian!" he fainted before he shot at me.
"Put him in a bag and take him along with us."
"Aye," the first mate replied. She directed the grunts, not to be to hard on the poor fellow. I knew she had found out her lineage.

We had just gotten into a cleared spot when the ship sent its rockets at us. As usual, it missed. It didn't want us to die, and we didn't wish it harm, yet. We pushed on and before long we had reached the side of the ship. The crew burst out, palms up. "We wish to parley."
"Take them into custody." thus the first five prisoners were taken. "You, take control of the rockets. Send them into the hallway above the defenders, they're about to run towards the main entrance." Then I turned to my snipers, "Pick off the outliers in the hallway." I got on the radio, "Captain, give them space to get into the main entrance. We'll get them in there with the rockets," No sooner said than done, the clones directed their fire on the left of the army. Instictively, they moved right. "That was too easy." I muttered to myself.

"General, the operation was only supposed to be six hours. That's how long it took me to take the patroller. It took us another half hour to build another forcefield." me and the general were having a conference in the patroller with our sweaty helmets off. One of the prisoners brought me water, and spit at the general. One of my crew guarded him, "Let's go get them something to eat." he enjoyed his position too much.
"Our mission was to take the station, that's what we're gonna do."
"Any more perks? I almost lost three men already, they barely made it."
      "Yah, one more."
      "What?"
"The rings were surrounded by a magnetic shield. You won't be able to contact me or the ship."
      "Dangit!"

"Careful men, we can only scan twenty feet ahead of us at a time." I said as we thumped along quietly up the ladder.
"Sir, you've said that about twenty hundred times. On this operation." my first mate replied.
"You can never be too careful. Look, this is the last hallway. If this isn't sealed off, there's a good chance that they're waiting on the other side."
"Yes Sir." she said with a tinge of sarcasm. Actually, it was all sarcasm, there was a tinge of obedience.
She opened the hatch, only to see that some of her enemies were preparing to seal off her last hatch of completing the mission. They were in shock, so she had the chance to fire a couple of laser rounds into their chests. Talk about a tattoo that hurt. So began the second phase of her mission...

    • Interesting. I'd suggest a stronger division between the diary and the live action bit. 🙂

Definite potential. A night's sleep and I'll offer more comprehensive critique.

      Cheers,

    • I think this story is pretty good. But I would like it if it weren't quite so much like SW

    • Thanks. If I ever get around to it I'lll right "Ring 2". Actually, I think that I'll write it right now, since it has been quite a while since I first posted it. So expect it to come soon.
