If anyone is interested in helping organize a tournament in order to breathe some life into the network lounge then post your ideas here. I have an idea for bi-weekly elimination tournament in which you play two matches a week. But we would have to see how many people would want to play. We would need 16 people for such a tournament, and I don't know if we gather that many players in one place at one time.

    • I'll play. I can't organize it because of school & large amounts of homework, but I'll play if I have time.

I would love to play another pop-pop-tourney!
But I too unfortunately have no time to organize it.

I an really pi***d off by the tracker-situation - man that happend to be one great game, but now as I registered.

      Hey, how about you ambrosia-guys?
      Won't you organize a tourney?
      Or a ranking-list?
      DO SOMETHING, PLEASE!!!

This is one of the greatest games ever created for Macintosh and you guys are going to let it go down like this.
      SHAME ON YOU!!!

      Happy New Year,
      /Lish

    • note: I'm not really a pop-pop player but i do browse these boards for some reason...heh

I would just like to say that from what I see the main impediments to succesfull pop-pop netplay are:

      a. you can quickly check on the webtracker to see if anyone is online. many people probably don't bother joining unless there are people already - a vicious cycle, eh 😕

      b. there's no chat on the tracker, so people who are just interested in hanging out for a bit and chatting with their pop-pop buddies, well, can't. And who knows, if there were more people hanging around the tracker and a better incentive to stick around to wait for a game, maybe there would be more games?

anyways, I'd just like to point out that I run the Ares ladder for (url="http://"http://www.magleague.net")http://www.magleague.net(/url) - they offer fully automated ladder ranking and tournaments. Maybe if someone's interested in taking a couple hours a week to be an admin for a pop-pop ladder, they should send off a mail to greybeard@magleague.net ? mag also runs their own chat server for finding games - might be more attractive than the chatless pop-pop tracker?

      just a suggestion...

    • Now two months I did set up a pop-pop tournament page - which worked well on two occasions but NOBODY seems to want to host a 1 hour tournament. A pity.
Anyhow, if someone is interested, here's again the link: (url="http://"http://homepage.mac.com/impp/pop")http://homepage.mac.com/impp/pop(/url)

Hey you set up your tournament page after the 2 tournaments. 🙂

But anyway I am up for another tournament should anyone decide to host one. I would host myself but I am far too irresponsible to manage such an operation! The amount of players at the moment is dismal so a tournament would be great.

By the way, if anyone knows 'presidente' or 'angmoh' would they please inform their respective next of kin that they may have died at their computers, while waiting in the pop-pop lounge!

Happy new year to all pop-poppers.

Yup. You're right. That's why I'm still waiting for more registered users to start playing the game before I register. I really want to get back into playing pop-pop, but I know that even if i do register the game, I will never be able to get a quality game of pop-pop running......

      A shame.....

      ------------------

    • I've registered, and I'm ready to play almost any time.

O.K. maybe I was exaggerating when I said it was dismal -it is possible to get good games, it is just that sometimes you might have to wait a bit.
Anyway it is only $25.00 to register -not $250.00! So get your cash out Ebenezer and play some pop-pop! It would be good to see you in the lounge again.

If people actually keep pop-pop open in and in the background, then the presence of other players in the network room will make it more likely other people will stay around. My guess at the main problem is that when people check via the web, and then don't even launch pop-pop if there are no games there (or alternatively just quit again after loading). Obviously nobody is going to turn up then. -_-

The game doesn't use many cpu cycles when it is backgrounded and hidden.

      My 2p anyway
      ^_^

    • My 2 cts is that Pop-pop is just not popular or just not promoted enough. On Download.com it does not even reach the Top 50 Games download this week! Games that are well less entertaining do much better.

    • I can't believe how many people get the game and then don't play on-line. Nobody plays. Why will nobody play. I think that I will just go crazy now.

Unfortunately, yes. I may be able to get on tomorrow (Tuesday). Someone is lending me a power cord. Don't even ask.

    • Having just come back from a bit of a sabbatical (when the real conflicts with the virtual, life is rarely pretty), I've noticed the drop-off in games on the tracker. Mind you, I'm kind of hamstrung by the fact that my hours of playability are totally wrong for the rest of the world...except maybe Japan. Lumisa and Hyko are about the only ones I've seen there this week.
