    • Ghosts in the machine… Pop-Pop bugs.

      4 7 381

On the whole a great game but there are two or three things that are starting bug me.

      1. The tracker seems to go down rather more frequently than it should, I understand that it takes time to sort out the server side technology, but it’s not exactly being over stretched at the moment. What will happen if and when you have hundreds of users on line?.

      2. When it goes down or re-activates it sometimes crashes my system (the whole system), it’s the only application that’s managed to take OSX down on my machine to date.

      3. What’s the point of a ‘Continue” if you have to re-start from the beginning?

Are there any plans for an update or a patch to fix the bugs in the near future?

I'm not sure what the cause of this is..... andrew?

The only app? Then you are a lucky man! Not that I get how/who pop-pop would ever bring osx to kernal panic... chuckles 😄

I'm not sure what you mean. Continue where? And if you mean in net games.. if you are registered you go back to the pop select screen after a game is over, not the network tracker.

I'm sure there will be patches in the future. There has already been one, in fact. Although I'm not sure any of your bugs will be the ones fixed... Anything that has to do with the tracker doing down is a server, not client side issue. And I've never heard of anyone else kernal panicking from it. And the Continue button isn't really a bug...

Oh yeah... Welcome to the boards!

    • The tracker thing might be OS X related or due to conflicts with other network protocols, Pop-Pop tracker doesn’t seem to work if your running seti@home (I had to delete everything Seti related) and can be flaky when using Gnutella. I also have my firewall settings pretty tight which might not help (is there a specific channel I should leave open for Pop-Pop?). When I tested it in OS 9 it worked fine – although that might just be coincidence rather than system related. Which leads to my next question: Why is there no 2 (human) player option under OS X? (Or am I just getting strange things happening on my machine?) As for the continue I mean when you play the computer, you get an option to continue if you lose a set however (on my machine at least) it takes you right back to the beginning – bit of a bummer when you’ve done 6 rounds with Ducky on expert and you lose the last set by a hair. Speaking of which, I’m not splitting them, Pop-Pop is the most addictive game I’ve played in years – all the best bits of Arkanoid and Pong with a whole load more on top, top game.

This is due to the lack of InputSprockets for Mac OS X.

No easy way in OS X to support 2 player input. Not yet at least.

The continue I believe is in the context of "continue to play?" And yes, it is a tournament -lose one and you're out, just like the computer opponents.

If you think I'm being mean, please tell me. I was actually going for NASTY!!

    • just a note. If you're interested in getting help with bugs (like pop-pop crashing in OS X), the place to go is the Help on the way board. You will find that David Dunham, Ambrosia's primo tech guy, hangs out there mostly.
You might also send an email to help@ambrosiasw.com

hope you can figure it out and see you on the tracker 🙂

    • Hi, no real problems for a while - the trackers seems to be more stable, I've had afew crashes but not kernel panic. Let the good times roll...
