    • Jimmy vrs Overrider


      Game 1
      Ishiman- Rock

      We both build 2 Carriers and a gunship. Jimmy comes for my planet a ways out. I warp to his. He comes back close but out of range. The fight begins as he charges. He uses a half monty python to wipe out my ships very quickly, I get weakened and build a gunship, I destroy his Carrier as he destroyes me, my other gunship and Carrier fall. I take over my 2nd gunship and pick off a couple of lone fighters he left at my planet. I build a unship and attack at my planet, han I build a cruiser, all of them are destroyed.

      Winner: Jimmy

      Game 2
      Space Warz

      We clash quickly, a couple shots hit. he comes back sailing to the side drilling me with shots, I get destroyed. I come back and take damage fast, he comes back and destroys me as I finally take his shields down to low. I come back for the third time, blast him apart. He comes back and wipes the floor with me.

      Winner: Jimmy

    • Well, Jimmy is good. OV, never build Cap ships. Build cruisers cruisers cruisers. If you spend all your dough building cruisers, you will have more combined firepower than the other player, who will likely be underway creating a cap ship when you blow in and take him out. Problem comes when there are 2 players who play that way...

      Hmm, a difficult race to give advice on. When you're battling Ish VS Ish, build carriers, with cruisers escorting them. That's just my opinion. And DO NOT lose your HVD. Use it to, um, "Monty Python" the enemy. (The pulses have superb range and damage.)

    • Ishiman carriers can be built quickly enough to stop a cruiser rush. They own cruisers. Ishiman carriers kill gunships too. Ishiman carriers are the best.

      etc., maybe an atrans somewhere

    • Well, I don't play all that often as the Ishimans, but in my experience with all the other races, cruisers (and gunships if there's time) are the best. Large numbers, fast strike. I got cremed by humans when I was playing as Sal - I was going for a carrier and they rushed me. I just go for cruisers.

    • eh. You lost to humans because Ares ships generally work like this:
      gunship>Carrier>cruiser>gunship
      exceptions are ish and canth in which carrier>cruiser>gunship<carrier

    • why don't you all just read the Jimmy Page Theory of Ares...? it's in the guides section of the ares addons. It has the best strategy for every race. If you don't use the strategies in the guide you will probably lose. lol it's that simple. If you still lose with the strategies, you probably played someone really good and need more practice at mastering the strategy, but at least your getting there.

      if everybody listened to my guide the world would be a happy place.

    • Jimmy Page, I know you're an Ares veteran and all. Your guide told me all it could. It's excellent. But please don't brag.

    • Hmm well i didn't mean to brag. Nobody really owns these strategies i speak of.

      my bad.

      But i am extremely serious about reading the guide. These strategy questions get repeated over and over in these boards. I don't like to see people constantly getting creamed at ares and thinking that they are really bad because they always lose. That's not true in 90 percent of the cases.

      Patrick has been constantly telling people the right strategies in all the strategy topics as well, and numourous others have as well. Ares is a pretty small game, so as a result, there are only a limited amount of strategies that actually work. The strategies in the guide are the best ones. They are the standard strategy to go by, and I guarantee you will win at least 65 percent of your games if you use em.

      Ares is pretty much designed around these basic strategies, and there's proof.

      From those basic strategies in the original Jimmy Page theory of Ares (sorry for the bad name of the theory) stem some modifications based on piloting skill and strategic skill.

      That is why I'm going to make a refined theory of ares to include every variation of the basic strategies of ares so that every single successfull strategy is analysed and rated according to piloting skill and strategic skill. I will also make a way to test your own piloting and strategic skills. In addition I will list many of the unsuccesfull strategies and create a formula for everyone to go by.

      I will also take my name out of the title of the guide so people don't think i'm trying to self promote things. I sincerely think if everyone went by these strategies and practiced them, they will no longer think they are bad.

    • Ah, yes. Now that you said it, I think Ares is a small game. Plus, it's pretty unrealistic.
