      Some thoughts and some questions...

I'm working on the preliminary ideas for a Star Trek Enterprise based TC. Right now I'm trying how to do warp drive correctly at the moment I am thinking a VERY large map (45/45 grid that’s 2025 systems) where around only one out of ten systems actually has something and the rest is "deep space" or maybe "Nebula" if you're lucky and there will be "long ranged sensors" (think Velloss senses) so people don't get TOO lost

Warp factor is the number of jumps you can make at once (gotta love multi-jump!) and power is the amount of fuel you have but I have a few questions

First am I out of my freckin' mind for attempting a map that stupidly huge (I'd think so ;p), second: is there a way to make jumps take more time (like a month or two instead of a day), how much fuel should I give ships, and just for questions sake, is there any way to have beams fire from more than one point on a ships' hull?

      Thanks

    • OK, first be aware that Uncle Twitchy is working on a Star Trek TC that is near completion (It's in Beta testing, I believe). Still, far be it for me to disourage anyone from making a TC.

      Nah. Maps aren't THAT hard.

Yes, by using the Outfit resource. Modtype 22 is a hyperspace speed mod where the Modval tells how many days to add or subtract to a hyperspace jump. See the Nova Bible for more info on this.

how much fuel should I give ships

I would say that depends on how far apart Starbases/refueling stations are.

Yes. Read up on the Shan Resource in the Nova Bible.

      Good luck!

    • I'd suggest something more like voyager or deep space nine, Enterprise doesn't have a whole lot in it. As for the fuel part, they generally need dilithium every 120,000 lightyears, or at least the intrepid class does. Soooo, lots of jumps.

    • As far as fuel goes, I'd recommend giving ships about eight jumps, and beyond that give them a reasonable fuel regeneration.

I think DSN would be very cool, since it has more of a political scenario than the other ones, which would make it more fit for a TC in my opinion.

    • Starfleet Adventure's map's jump links represent one day's travel at Warp 8 (TOS-era scale).

It's not quite at beta testing yet -- still a crapload of descriptions to write -- but I'm getting closer. As I've said on the main EVN board and the SFA boards on EV-Nova.net, I'm shooting for a first quarter 2006 release.

So PsyckoSama, good luck, but I'm going to tell you right now -- a TC as large as you're talking about (SFA has over 1300 s˙sts and over 1200 spöbs) will take you years and years of work -- I started working on SFA in the fall of 2002 (yes, before EVN was released -- I started working on teaching myself how to do the graphics first).

My plan is to get the map and systems done and see if I can pull anyone else in for working with missions and graphics. For discriptions and system contents I'm thinking of hitting up various online resorces for a foundation, and most of the systems will be the systems 100 LY from earth from the TNG and TOS eras aswell as all the planets from the ENT era.

My current order of operation is to make them map, then work on the plotlines (plan is to write it out then work on making missions out of it), and save graphics for last.

And the reason I am choosing the Enterprise Era is two fold... first, this will be a bit of a rewrite... I hate the temporal cold war, I had Bannon's disreguard for cannon, but I loved the potental of enterprise. This is my way of taking Enterprise and making it more true to form...

I also think this era is more fun because everything is newer... Earth is the new kid on the block and no other races really have much of an opinion, so theoretically you can go onto become adopted into a Klingon house, betray your race and become a Romulan spy, make a fortune selling Orion Slave Girls, or just explore the map which by all rights should be 95% unexplored.

    • You know, I have virtually all the ships from ENT rendered and in use in SFA -- you could always just wait until that comes out and then write a plug-in set in the ENT era.

nods We'll have to discuss that when it comes up... 🆒
