    • Launched IFF scrambler?

I'd like to make an outfit which launches an object that scrambles enemy IFF and makes you appear friendly. (Ideally this would happen after a delay, but that would be a straightforward modification via submunitions if it's possible at all.)

Is this possible? I know I can make an ammo outfit also have IFF scrambler properties, but will they still apply when launched, and will they not apply prior to launch?

    • Hmm... I cant think of an easy way to do that. The normal behavior for any ammo outfit is that it works until the moment you launch it, then its effects dissapear. I cant think of how to do this other than a mission.

You could use a dude with a linkmission, but thats kinda clunky, especially if you want it to work everywhere.

Actually, for some uses it is kind of elegant.

"You open the comm channel with the other captain as you order one of your men to launch the scrambler. You demand to know why a member of the Federation navy would fire on a clearly marked and registered passenger transport which, you add, is currently transporting a VIP. The other captain stands strong, but someone indicates something from just out of view. Suddenly, he wilts.

"I appologise for any inconvenience, sir. A full report will be filed. Please, continue on your journey. If you need help, we'll be glad to offer free repairs."

You close the comm channel, smiling.

(starts a mission that makes a special ship looking like the jammer jump into the system. Adds the IFF jammer outfit to player)

      😉

    • Eh...not exactly what I had in mind. Maybe, though.

All the outfit really needs to do is distract the enemy for a while. If it could make the enemy attack it (or try to help it) instead of shooting at you, that would serve the same result. Any ideas in that direction?

Best I can come up with is having it be a carried ship with a really long-range weapon that does no damage.

    • Yep, thats what I would do. Not much else i can think of.

    • If the carried ship were also untargetable and/or indestructible, would the enemy ship still go after it?

    • You could just give it high shield recharge. Why does it need to be untargetable?

I was hoping that I could get an enemy ship to be "distracted" by it, without the enemy actually opening fire.

I'm trying to simulate the activation of a fake distress signal, like the Cry Baby in the Firefly pilot.

    • Oh.... distracted without firing?

Maybe make it shoot weapons with high recoil so the ships have to keep moving forward towards it, and never actually get close enough to hit it.

    • Hmm. That's a pretty good idea. Worth trying.
