    • Disabling ships

      What are the rules?

It's kind funky. Inspired by the "Disabled ship boards ship" topic, what are the rules:

-To make a pirate board you and plunder your ship
-To make your escorts just disable the enemy ship
-To make enemies just disable you (like Feds)

All of the above have happened at least once before, but are there ways to replicate it with 100% correctness?

The person with the correct answer get's their ride pimped.

      1. I dunno, I guess whenever they can but sometimes they destroy you first be accident.
      2. This is easy. Just tell them to defend you or whatever. They'll remain in formation and only attack hostile ships within their range so as soon as it's disabled it's no longer hostile and they stop firing.
      3. Not sure about this either but I think it happens when they're fighting others at the same time. You get disabled and you're no longer a threat so they move on to the next enemy. Afterwards they go round destroying all the disabled ships.

1: This must be done from the enemy shďp side of things. They must have only disabling weapons so they never accidentally kill you, and they must have their AI set to plunder.

2: This must be done from the escort shďp side of things, by choosing escorts with only disabling weapons.

3: This must be done from the enemy side of things as well, by giving the enemies only disabling weapons. Maybe an AI change so they won't try to board you, if you don't want them to.

In short, there is no way to accomplish any of those feats consistantly without possibility of error without modding all the resources in question. I suppose you could just make every weapon a disabling only weapon, and call it good... 🆒

    • I could also duplicate every ship and weapon in the game, make them all disabling and it'll work...

Or you could just have the mission ships be disabling duplicates of the regular ships...

      Yessssss....

I once created a plug with this in mind. I created a new Pirate Beam Viper that was disable only. (After all, isn't that what pirates do?)

Funny thing was, the ship themselves didn't realize they were only supposed to disable the enemy, and continued firing on it after it was disabled trying to "kill" it. They continued this "play with the dead mouse" game until recalled or given another target. Hysterical, yet pathetic.

    • Okay, I can tell you the following:

      - Many pirates disable only and plunder because it's in their gövt resource. The times where they actually destroy, but are of the Pirate gövt, means that it was done unintentionally (explained below).

      - Escorts will only disable if you tell them to defend you. At least, they stop firing once the enemy is disabled. But that means sometimes you'll still have powerful shots going in their direction, which might end up destroying the enemy

      - Feds only disable?

Why would this require an AI change? Take a look at the govt resource.
