We have a wiki?

Ladies and gentlemen of the board...
Esteemed moderators and admins...

Our fellow members, Matthew Walk and Darth Bob, have taken the initiative, to create a valuable and so far, under-used resource.

The EVDC wiki is the child of a discussion asking what the state of the community was. Matthew Walker committed his own time and money into hosting such a great tool. Let's not waste it.

At last check, there wasn't much interest in a wiki. We have maybe, what, 10 registered users?

---What you'll get---
Now, I'm not one to beat around the bush, so I'll be frank. Are you working on a TC or large plug-in? Chances are, if it looks promising, it will be allowed to have it's own page with updates and other such things. Aftermath has one (Which is, unfortunately, horribly out of date...). Zacha Pedro's guides are somewhat up. Imagine having those in one place and being able to see it as you need it.

Of course, the entire thing is a bit boring as of now. We only have 14 registered users. If we get more people interested and helping out, we'll have a nice little community going on. People, don't waste this opportunity.

Ill look into this. I have a pet TC, but i have much more fun thinking of engine hacks.

I'll do it. I signed up. Now I just have to think of a sweet crazy cool name for my TC (see sig) and I can make a page for it. Suggestions anyone?

That's another thing this can be used for is to document the engine hacks so they are easily accessible and searchable for everyone.

Hm I just had a look, and found it painfully difficult to use. You have to search to get the list of all pages, and once you've found them, no way of creating a new page
Of course, I'm sure I'm doing it all wrong, but that's the perspective of someone who has never done anything on a Wiki (except for searching).

So could you write a small guide? The help section is empty

A wiki is a web-based application where people from around the world can contribute and edit articles. The largest wiki is called Wikipedia and has info on almost anything you could want. The Wikipedia. And let's not forget the page about The Escape Velocity Nova Page.

On the EVDC wiki, if you want a new page, simply type in the URL of the page you want (keep it simple! like total_conversion) and click on the edit tab.

Yeah, thats kinda what I sorta meant. Just like ZP has all this great initiative and knowledge of the engine, but no creative energies at the moment, he has dedicated his time (in the past atleast) to create guides for the new user, and would therefore be a valuble asset to a wiki, I have dedicated a lot of time to advanced stuff. I think Ill start my own set of guides built around disgusting advanced stuff. We should keep them clearly seperate, the weap template already has crap the beginner doesnt need. Maybe something as silly as a color-coding system, and a mode where you only see the newbie stuff.

The mainpage for the wiki right now blows... it isnt even really an index. Anyway, I suppose i could start adding some stuff. And a page for my pet TC: Astronest something or other. Great game back in the day, Im gonna port it to EV.

So very tired... using Anaxagoras TC list and vitamin google, I updated the TC page for the projects that had websites and team listings. I'm missing quite a few, and I'm not sure if some of the data are up to date, so if you are on a TC development team do the Wiki a favor and edit your page to your liking.

It would be so much more efficient if one of the people in charge of the EVDCWiki edited the main page to show the links to all pages

A way to keep them seperate is by using the category tags.

so the category for ZP's guides is ((Category:Annotated_Guides)) and you could just add a ((Category:Engine_Hacks)) tag and then a page with all the pages that have that tag listed in alphabetical order is created.

I would just like to lay down some rules for the wiki.

1. Don't misuse the wiki.
2. Please don't use bad language or racial comments in the wiki
3. Spamming, Flaming, displaying porn or links to porn on the wiki will result in an immediate IP ban
4. Look through all the pages on the wiki or search for pages similar to what your submitting to see if it's already been added.
5. If you don't do it on Ambrosia boards don't do it on the wiki

Could someone point me towards a page that explains how wiki code works? I recognise it enough to know its the same as some other places ive been, but i dont know the tags and such cold...

I'll repeat what I said on the wiki itself:
Registered users get a page all to themselves for a littel "About" thingie. I'd advise that you test out the code there and get used to working with it.

But you cant just figure it out dry. Theres no manual whatsoever.
