    • Replacing The Default Resources

Is there something obvious I'm missing?

I used to make plugins back in the days before Nova, and although they never amounted to anything, it was a relatively straightforward process. Replacing the default Override graphics with my own crude attempts was a simple matter of overriding (no pun intended) the corresponding resources. Not so with Nova. Making simple ships and space objects has been a constant headache, since the engine refuses to acknowledge the plugin's graphic resources. Though a lot of cursing and hair pulling, I figured out that this was because nova used the rleD graphic format instead of the PICT graphics I was using (I feel so old school now). Trying to delete the rleD graphics that were superseding mine caused Nova to complain and crash. Is there something I'm not doing that I should be? I tried downloading absolute minimum but it seems to be broken. I just want to be able to crate small universes for my own amusement the way I used to.

    • If you give your picts different IDs (ie, IDs that aren't already used by rles) then you should be okay.

    • If you want to override the existing RLEs, you will have to convert your graphics into the RLE format. This can be done using the EnRLE/DeRLE NovaTools available at http://w00tware.ev-nova.net/ (NOTE: NovaTools does not work on Windows).

Also, the AbsoluteMinimum file is in .REZ format, used by the Windows version of Nova. You can covert it using this utility.

    • Well, that's an option I suppose since EVN lets you determine the system the player starts out in. Still, I want to replace the resources if possible. I made a copy of all the Nova data files, and I want to simply delete the ones I'm not using. Basically I want to end up with a miniverse, a complete scenario that's fairly small and uncomplicated. Absolute minimum would be perfect if it worked, but as far as I can firgure out it doesn't.

    • I tried using the converter on absolute minimum, but it said it wasn't a valid rez file. Does anyone have a working mac version?

    • I do. How should I get it to you? (It's 7.5 megabytes)

    • Can you eMail it to me? cosmic_rat@mac.com
