    • Halo TC.

A while ago, a Halo TC was extremely briefly discussed here. (I would post a link, but there was only 3 posts, none of which seemed really relevant)

When I thought about it then, it didn't seem like a good idea. Not enough ships or systems to start off with.

With the release of Halo 2, and the series of Halo books, My opinions have started to change. In Halo 2 you see alot of different Human Ships, and a few varied covenant ships. In the books even more are described (Covenant stealth ships, Human 'Spooks' Stealth ships, civilian vessels, flyable repair docks stations) Artistic license would need to be used, but I don't think it would be too difficult to come up with ships that fit into the Human or Covenant style.

Weapons are more varied in the books, MAC cannons (of varying sizes and fire rates) Archer missile pods, Longsword fighters, Pelican Dropships, Automated point defence systems, Shiva nuclear warheads. Marine Platoons for boarding, and you could even carry a Squad of Spartans for special missions.

The Covenant would have all there ship based plasma and laser weapons, and some of the bigger ships could have planet destroying weapons (leading to missions)

I have only read the book 'fall of reach' but in it some fantastic fleet battles are described. I feel if done properly, these could be duplicated in Nova, and look fantastic. For missions, you'd start as an Ensign in the Navy, before first contact with the covenant, taking on pirates and rebels, dropping squads of marines to there destinations, there are alot of possibilities which would work. Then you could start fighting the covenant, have to test out new weapons and tactics to beat them.

There are a few more systems described, but most you could fill in. The outer colonies, mainly used for resources, far flung military outposts, the Inner colonies (Reach, Earth etc)

So I was wondering if anyone can see any glaring problems with a Halo TC, and if anyone has any other Ideas they want to throw around.

    • What about playing as the Master Chief like you do in the games? I can imagine how much fun it would be to "give the Covenant back their bomb". 😉 Also, since most of the Halo combat ( in-game at least) is on the ground, you might make a strange planet system of two just for fun. You could even have a ship in the background that can't be targeted and can only be hit with planet-type weapons. Say, in a Ghost?

      Obviously, I like this idea.

    • The Fall of Reach was surprisingly good due to it's beautiful battle scenes. So yeah, I do think that it would be quite possible to use that as a base for a TC. Sounds like a good idea, but I won't join.

    • Do you want TC forum hosting at the Kontik Research Front?

    • Sound's neat. I could help with your graphics but you will need to tell me what the ship's look like.

    • I can't believe this idea is actually going somewhere . . .

Guys, Halo is a FPS. Period. There's no story in space, nothing at all. You'd have to create a story based on something incredibly feeble. The Master Chief doesn't spend much time in space, so any remotely canon story involving him is pretty much shot, given that he's the centerpiece of the series. In addition, book descriptions are great, but there's no way to actually tell if the ships your designing are legitimate. The minute smattering of ships you DO see during gameplay is hardly enough to go on alone.

If you're into making a TC that has nothing to do with the Master Chief and in no way, shape or form resembles the game itself, and choose to call it "Halo" to get that warm fuzzy feeling that you're playing a Halo TC, go for it.

      Thanks for the Input.

I know what you mean, it may be hard to convert over into a Nova Type game, as there isn't too much to go on. I guess I'm just so in love with the whole Halo universe i'd love to see something like this made.

The problem with using artistic license to create my own Halo like ships, is they may not be everyones idea of what they should look like, and that would cause complaints, or just have people not playing it, so It's a tricky subject to handle.

This is what I created the topic for, to see people's opinions on whether it could be done or not, and get their Ideas.

    • One other problem that comes to mind: turning Star Trek or Babylon 5 or Battlestar Galactica into a TC is one thing; they were all television shows from which a number of games have been based. Halo started as a game; its story has pretty much been told in the gameplay forum. If anything, this one needs reverse engineering - a Halo movie.

That has the potential to be excellent, but then you look at other Games that have been made into Movies ( Street fighter, Tomb raider, Mortal Combat, Mario ) and it suddenly looks not so promising. Though with the right people, it could be good.

    • Perhaps the MArathon Trilogy Would help your cause- There are so many parallels betwee the two, that some fans speculate an extension in halo.

Marathon is free, so you could, possibly, even tie in some FPS action.

    • Nice idea. If you make it I would be glad to beta test. I'm not skilled as a plug maker but I'm fine for testing

      You haven't read the books.

Given that, it will never actually get done, as there have been only two or three TCs (to my knowledge) that have ever been finished.

By the way, "giving the covenant back their bomb" was a cheap, cheesy way of keeping the action from the teaser trailer in the game. Personally it just annoyed my. My opinion though.

    • I dunno if a Halo 1/2 mod is really feasible, as it's more a 3d space battle arena that we're looking at. However, a Homeworld 2 mod sounds good. 🙂

edit: then again, I don't know how to do a Homeworld 2 mod...

    • I think there is enough back story to do a plug, maybe not a full blown TC as there is just too much missing information. As far as artistic liscense goes, I wouldn't worry about it. If you look at some of the fan fiction that was written in the Halo-verse, some of it is crap yes, but others I think almost tell a better story than the actual games. Its your idea and your interpretation. I actually toyed around with a Haloish plug, no graphics or anything but creating weapons like the MAC gun and the Plasma Torps, fun stuff.
