nova: whats the code?

what type of code is nova written in?
i heard some things being thrown around, like
cocoa and pegasus, but does anyone know what it -really- is?

And it's compiled as a hybrid Carbon-Classic application, not Cocoa (you get the Classic version in Mac OS 9 and earlier, the Carbon version in Mac OS X - early betas were actually two separate applications).
