      Ah yes, that's right. And EV does something different? I now recall that I did the e or m/4 for override, and I believe I did the same for EV... If that is an incorrect behavior, I could certainly change it.

    • Consul Bob, your AIM seems to have disconnected right before I could send you this build... It is built specifically for OS 8 and 9, and will not run natively on X (not carbon). Go ahead and drop this in the SpacePort folder, and see if you have any better luck with it.

    • Well... After what seems to have been 10 hours of programming work, I've got an updated version of SpacePort to distribute.

      This is a .sitx'd application. Just drop this in the SpaceShip folder, and throw out the older version of the application.

      Most of the enhancements none of you will see. But the majority of the work done has to do with Mac OS 8 compatibility, and for that, I worked for these several past hours with Consul Bob. As a direct result of this, I've added in a debugging mode, as well as it's 'fast debug' counterpart (same thing, but faster, and doesn't update as often), and a beta tool I had that allowed you to skip resource types. Again, the majority of you won't need it, and for that, the omit will remain undocumented, however, it will be there in case you need to debug an error.

      For those of you running OS 8, you are required to run in the Debug mode or Fast Debug mode... Debug mode contains several redundancy measures, as well as repetitive, verbose output to ensure Mac OS 8's more primitive file handling works as it should.

      If any of you intend to release or extensively use a ported plugin, please, send me an email. I'd like to know just how many people (or if any at all!) are using my software. In the meantime, feel free to offer suggestions.

      If this turns out to be fairly successful in the next few days, I'll go ahead and upload it to ambrosia's server.

      In the SpacePort download blurb on the addons page you state that it is OS 8.6 compatible. You may be unaware that .sitx files cannot be downloaded or decompressed by anyone without OSX. Since I am an OS 8.6 person with no OSX capabilities available, am I to take it that I'll never be able to get SpacePort? 😞

      Well, I did quite a bit of work with Consul Bob getting 8.x support, using the sitx format to transfer the files between us (at least as I recall it...). He was using 8.x as well, obviously, and since he could decompress the files, I don't see why you shouldn't... I'll try to find out more, and if it turns out to be too infeasible for 8.6 users, I'll try to get that version replaced with a standard .sit file.

      Thanks. Appreciate the effort. There may indeed be an application I can use that I'm not aware of, but Stuffit doesn't appear to be able to deal with .sitx files, so my browser just creates a new window with gibberish in it instead of downloading. I may be doing something wrong, so maybe CB can shed some light on how he managed to do it.

      Yeah, at this point, I don't even remember if it was sitx or just sit... Please note this took place from 11PM to 6AM, pretty much. πŸ˜‰ I'll get a standard sit version of the file up for you on my site.

      Sounds like it's your browser that doesn't know what to do with it, rather than Stuffit. Copy the ftp link and paste it into your download manager.

      I did two things that fixed the situation. First I went to Aladdin's site and downloaded Expander 7.0.3, which can indeed deal with .sitx files (unlike v6.5 which I was using). I then had to add "sitx" to my browser's applications preferences and was able to download SpacePort from the ASW addons page. Sorry for the premature cry for help, I should have tried all that before bothering you about it. Oh goody, now I can try converting some of those old EVO plugs.

      Thank you Space Pirate for providing us with such a useful utility. Too bad the karma system went away, you definitely deserve that bunch of karma points originally promised.

    • Um... Yeah. Found two itty-bitty bugs.

      First, converting as a folder (without being in debug mode) will crash. This has been resolved as of 1.1.1.

      Second, I added in cicn support months ago, but, uh... never enabled it. This has also been resolved.

    • If you've downloaded this in the last few days, you might want to try again now. There was a fairly large error in the spΓΆb resource.

      All fixed now. I was able to completely and successfully convert the entire EV and EVO scenarios without a hitch.

    • I just stumbled upon this topic, and I had no idea you guys were so far along with an EV/EVO to EVN converter! Hopefully it'll help kick-start some TCs - perhaps some developers could take an old EV TC, and with the author's permission, convert it and "Novarize" it.

      My concern though is that it's only OS 8/9 compatible. It seems like building an application to be OS 9 only these days is a bit short-sighted given the prevalence of OS X. But I'm not one to be picky... I am just curious as to whether there will be versions for OS X and Windows. It would be really cool if that were the case, as I only have an OS X machine and a Windows machine.

    • It is a carbon app - it was just that one build he posted earlier that was classic only, which you'll see no longer exists. I doubt he'll make a Windows version though. I mean what use would that be, seeing as the data it's porting isn't available on windows? It would have to workaround the resource forks and output in .bin and stuff and it would all be rather silly.

      Quite right. In fact, that is what we were discussing earlier involving the MacBinary output. And as Guy said, this version is compatible with everything from 8 to X, so long as CarbonLib is intstalled in version 8 or 9.

      I've personally used this to convert several old TCs for personal use, some of them as reference material for newer TCs I'm working on. Give it a shot, I hope you'll be pleased. πŸ™‚
