    • Wild Geese vs. Irish pirates (help wanted)


      First off - I'm a n00b with small experience with programming and general things like that.
      Second - I love computer games and love trying to program and general things.
      Third - I came up with a great idea about an Irish pirate group that would be against the Wild Geese. (Reasons unknown until the end of plotline)
      Fourth - I need HELP. That means a hopefully experienced Graphics person and hopefully experienced plug dev. to help me out.
      NOTE: This is for my benefit as much as the EVN communities'. i want to design good plug ins but need to have more knowledge. So hopefully some of you experienced Devs. could help me out.
      Any ideas would be also welcome.

    • Yeah something like that. Wanna help? I forgot to mention, i have a windows and I'm using EVNEW. I aint sure how this affects the picts, but you should probably have a Windows if your gonna help me.

      I wouldn't limit your help that way.

      EVNew can import .pict files (and I'll hazard a guess that it can import anything Quicktime can open), and it should be possible for a Mac user to open .bmp and save as pict without hard-to-get software. So the only barrier to cross-platform developing would probably be converting .rez to the mac format* and back.

      *Please forgive my ignorance, but what is the file type for mac format plugins anyway?

    • As said before im a n00b and this problem is probably easy to fix but i dunno how to fix:
      I was trying to start out easy. a system, a planet, thats it. I stole the Pol battlestation rle8 and rleD, and i made a Spin to go along. Then i start EVN. when the loading bar is full EVN quits without saying anything.
      Thats pretty much all i can explain without sending u my plugin. If you think you can help, put up your email and i'll send it to you. It will only take a minute or 2 to fix, and i'll be very appreciative.

      Sorry but no that is how the plugs are compressed... As for what Mac plugs are I believe they are something like a .rsrc file or something...

    • Mac plug-ins are simply files with a resource fork that have a type code of Npïf and a creator code of Növä. Type and creator codes, by the way, are invisible attributes of a Mac file which are not supported on Windows.

      The format for Mac plugs is a traditional resource file, i.e. in the resource fork (don't search, it cannot exist on the PC; for this reason it has never been given an extension), with type and creator said. it uses custom resource types (which are little more than names, technically) which contain data in the format told by the Bible.

    • Maks sure that the spöb for your 'planet' or whatever is set to use the index of the spin for your chosen planet graphic and not the resid of the rle's. Is that condusive? For some reason this topic was very hard to read.

      EDIT: Somebody take a look at the graphic ID for Jupiter. It says 5. The spob spin IDs start at 1000!!!

    • right, and it corresponds to ID 1005. The way nova works can be a bit confusing, but if you look through it enough, it makes sense.

      No need to be rude, the pilotlog/debuglog link was to help you fix the problems, and the rest was answering the mac question. Using a debuglog makes it easier to pinpoint problems, and can be posted here to help others help you better.

    • If that text file exists, Nova writes out to it everything that is happening when it is loading. It will tell you where the problem is.

    • Though to be fair, if there is a problem with a graphic loading, many times (in my experience) Nova will choke bad on startup with no explanation given in the debug log. Or when jumping into a system with the bad graphic.

      Making it clear: the rlë8/rlëD resource IDs have absolutely nothing to do with the spďn id for the planet. As in spďn ID 405 or whatnot can point to rlë # 30032 if it wants to; and you will still have to reference the spďn # 405 in your spöb resource to get the graphic to match up (and then the index number will be 277, which is resid 405 minus 128. Why? I don't know.

      So, seriously, and to beat a broken record, if you're crashing on startup, your spďn may not be pointing to the right rlë, or more likely the s˙st is pointing to the wrong spďn. These are two problems that I run into all of the time, and those are the two issues that it invariably is. Being a Mac user, I cannot say what other problems PC Nova might have, but these are my only suggestions.
