    • O.K, buying the thing is a lot harder then I expected. I don't know which version I need.

What is the difference between the Maxon CINEMA 4D R8.5 XL Bundle Mac (first "link") and the Maxon CINEMA 4D R8.5 Studio Bundle Mac? (second "link")

      (url="http://"http://makeashorterlink.com/?Q58A32F78")http://makeashorterlink.com/?Q58A32F78(/url)

      (url="http://"http://makeashorterlink.com/?I40A51F78")http://makeashorterlink.com/?I40A51F78(/url)
Other then the big price difference, I can't really tell what the differences are.
So, two questions, of the people who use C4D, which do you use?

edit: argh the URLs are too long

    • The XL version includes lots of plugins. And so do the studio bundle.

Bodypaint..(texturing stuff) and some other very expensivee plugins.

If you don´t have unlimited money, i´ll go for the regular 8.5 version. Without all the extras, which you´ll probably never use.

I don´t have the plugins, they seem great though.

Ya, I don't plan on doing anything too complicated, and I have Photoshop 7 for textures.
What is the basic version called? I find it hard to tell the difference when names are like "Studio", and "XL bundle"

      I found this:
Maxon CINEMA 4D R8.5 XL Bundle Mac
      Usually Ships: 72 Hrs.
      Item No.: #46364791
      Your Price: $ 295.00

I think that is a good price; almost too good. It is from the link that what_is_the_matrix posted (www.journeyed.com), so I assume it is a credible site.

I was looking at that the other day, and have 2 questions.

      1. How do you make the brown scratchy stuff? (I have Photoshop V7)
      2. How did you take the finished texture and add it to the ship so everything matches as you want it to? (I guess if you aren't using C4D this doesn't help me)

      Sorry, fixed.

Well, I can't get the real C4D until I get back home in July, so I am stuck with the demo for now (can't save).

Here is my most recent attempt at a ship:
      (url="http://"http://zoxler.net/C4D/sidetop.jpg")http://zoxler.net/C4D/sidetop.jpg(/url)

I would greatly appreciate criticism and comments. I haven't really figured out texturing yet, as far as making my own.

Man, that's a nice price. I'm feeling sorry now that I registered my c4D6CE+ for a hundred bucks. Well, maybe they'll let me upgrade someday.

Jules, those are wonderful models. Could you post the wires at some time, give an idea how they were constructed?

It's, um... I really can't tell what it is. All I can say is that it looks like you have a collision problem with the yellow thing. It looks like it's going through the mesh or something. I dunno.

    • If you're doing planar mapping, as long as the texture is exactly the proportions of the ship when viewed from the direction that you'll be mapping.

I'm going to do a tutorial on making that type of scratchy texture next.

I can't really tell what your ship is, but I like the curves. It's nice to see experiments with shape right off the bat.

Eh, what do you mean? Post the actual models or post wireframe renders of the ships? I'd consider posting wireframe renders, but not the models.
