    • Govt. classes, allies, enemies...

New question, this time concerning the Govt resource. I think I get the whole class vs allies/enemies thing. But what I dont get, is what the numbers refer too. For example, in the Nova Govt resources, the first Federation(RID#128) is allied to 0, 1 ,12, and 13. What are those numbers refrencing? And how do you know?

    • The number in the ally/enemy fields refer to government classes that the govt is allied/enemy with. These classes are assigned in the class fields. The Feds are in class 1 (most of the different govts labeled Fed. are, except for some 0s and a 2), so they're allies because of the 1 in the ally field. Likewise, the Auroran Empire (not the houses) is in class 2, so the Feds dislike them because of the 2 in Enemy1.

Oh, I guess you already knew that, reading your post again. The numbers aren't anything special, as long as they're linked up right. I could make the classes start at 30 if I wanted, and nothing would change. If you want to find who's in class 2.718281828.. (actually, they should be positive integers 😛 ), just look at everyone and find out.

      Hope this helps.

Open the Holy Bible. You may see that there are four class fields for every government. They specify the classes the government in question is considered belonging to. Notice that simple appartenance to a common class does not make two govts allied, just be both ennemies or allies with a third one who has the class in one of its ennemy/ally fields.

    • Thanks but I guess I wasn't being very clear as to what I was asking. Croikle cleared it up for me in an IM session. I was trying to figure out what the numbers themselves were refrencing, and it turns out they are totaly arbitrary. There is no way to know which governments are in a particular class other than opening every govt resource and checking.

Of course. Many things are like that in plugs/data files (for instance, mission bits, there is no magical meaning associated to them, you just set them somewhere, and check the bit has been set somewhere else, the number of the bit itself is arbitrary). Maybe it should be explained a bit more somewhere, as it seems obvious for us but not for the beginners.
