Help making engine flares and shots

Ok, I want to make a shot, like the blaster shots in the starbridge info pic, for a scene. But I can't for the life of me figure out how to make it glow.

How is this done? How do I make a engine flare texture?

Strata Vision, I believe that it is similar to Strata.

I think that there's a glow effect in... uhm... effect, or post rendering effects or something similiar (I by myself use 3D studio MAX, so I don't know much about Strata :p) and then you just need to set the effect to apply to certain map ID or such ^^;

Or then, you'll make 2 drop like texture maps and add graphics to them and use opacity (mask :p) along with two planes in 'cross' (like + from top ^^) and that's a blaster shot for you, without 'effects' and looks good still, well, atleast from certain directions

i think those are visible light sources..Not textured in any way.

I don´t know if Strata can do this.. C4D can..and most serious apps should.

If you are hell bent on making it an object with a texture, then i would go for a flat object with an alpha mask.. You´ll probably have to make the texture yourself.

About the glow, I don't know if it's in your version, but in Strata 3.0.2 in the resource section under FX theres a resource called Aura. Apply this to an object and you get a nice glow effect.

Don't think those will work. He's on Stratavision. Im pretty sure its too old to use those textures...

Well 3.0.2 (the one I used to distribute) is about 5 years old. Its a good 2/3 years older than that.

Actually I figured out how to do that a while ago... I can't really explain it but I could send you a tutorial-ish thingy when I get my mac up and running, probably some time this weekend.

Ok Jules.

I think I'm onto something, there is a glow map option in strata, this allows me to make a texture that glows all over, or in some places. Using a texture with a cover all glow map with a generic red color and a long teardrop I have been able to make a fairly convincing Plasma bolt., but I still can't quite get the effect I want. The texture is slightly transparent and I'm wondering if a point light inside will make it glow better?

Perhaps you can get a fair bit of the functionality of Strata 3.0.2 by getting the free Strata Base 3.5, and then working back and forth between that and your copy of Strata Vision?
