    • Converting Wings 3D Files

I'm attempting to render some wings 3D files that I've completed for some new outfits and ships, but I have no idea how to be able to convert and/or import the files to either Blender or to Photoshop Elements 2.0 for Windows XP, could someone tell me what the exact procedure is for converting wings 3d files so that I can render and color them?

You should be able to export from Wings 3D as a VRML file (*.wml) and then import that into Blender. Export and import should be under the file menu in both programs. I just started looking at wings this morning, so I'm not sure of the exact procedure. There may be other model formats that both Blender and Wings recognise. Look at the file types Wings can export as and the ones Blender will import and try any that match. Different formats might keep or lose different parts of the data.

You'll have to render it first... there's no 3D file format that Photoshop could even begin to comprehend. That'd be like trying to open an MP3 with Word, or a movie with iTunes... it just doesn't mix. You'll have to import it to Blender or something else that can render (heh, rhyme) and render it there. If you're not sure what file format Blender uses, use Wings to save it as a .3ds file. That's the closest thing to a standard format you'll find, and Blender will most likely be able to import it one way or another.

    • Could someone point me to the plug that allows me to export wings 3D to POV-ray. It says it needs one. If it doesn't tell me how to export it to POV-ray

    • I guess I spoke too soonyesterday. Blender seems to have trouble importing VRML 2.0 files from wings3d, at least with the mac versions of both programs. I can't try it in windows right now because my other computer is in pieces. There may be some kind of converting program out there and if you can find one it will be your best bet.

The plugin is linked to from the Wings3d front page, but here is the site it's hosted on: (url="http://"http://www.midcoast.com.au/~rgcoy/software.html")http://www.midcoast....y/software.html(/url)

Seeing as Wings is mesh-based and POV-Ray is script-based, I doubt converting them is possible.

I wonder what that export to povray plugin does then...

POV-Ray does handle meshes, just that they're a pain in the neck to do by hand.
