I have no idea how to make a plug-in, but I would like to make a plug-in that makes the Heraan - Va Ytrek class Carrier available to buy on Heraan. The stats for it can be found on (url="http://"http://www.evula.com/survival_guide/evn-ships/auroran.html")EVula's site(/url) (click on "compare variant statistics" under Auroran Carrier). Could anybody tell me how to make this plug-in?

1. What system do you have?

2a) If Mac, download Resedit and Nova tools. Install Nova tools by opening res's preferences file (in res) and copying everything there onto it.

2b) If Windoz, download EVNEW and figure out how to use it.

3. Copy the carrier class you want from the nova data file and change the availbits to blank, the probabliity of finding to 100, and set a tech level available on Heraan. You might want to copy the planet Heraan over and change it to have a seperate tech level for the ship.

Just one problem Meaker VI: each ship has TONS of variants. There is no way of knowing which is the one you want.

I have a Mac, and downloaded ResEdit & NovaTools, and I copied NovaTools into Res.

Er, excuse my ignorance/newbness, but which nova data file? I checked and there's a whole bunch of them. (And I just open the data file via File menu --> Open, right?)

Try Nova Data 1, and the shďp resource. You want to copy resource 302 into your plug, and edit it there. You'll want to look at Heraan's spöb resource to find out its specialTech values, and put one of those in the techlevel of your new carrier. Alternatively, you could also copy Heraan and add an unused specialTech to it just for this carrier. (I don't know what those are, but something large with no 9s like 314 should work). As Meaker VI said, you'll also need to wipe the availbits and set the probability to 100. Good luck!

I got the Auroran Carrier copied into my plug, but I can't find the availbits or the techlevel in the carrier (I could find the tech stuff on Heraan, though). FYI, I did find the Buy Availibility.

EDIT: Found the Tech for the carrier (don't know why I couldn't find it at first), and it was already set at something compatible with Heraan. As for Availbits, I still can't find them. Is the "Availibility (test)" part at the bottom an availbit?

Yep, we just call them that because they were called availbits in the ResEdit templates, and it's quicker to type.

Okay, I've wiped the availbits (AppearOn, OnPurchase, etc.), set the Buy Random to 100, and put the Tech Level at a number that was one of Heraan's SpecialTech numbers. I opened EV:N with the plugin, loaded a character that had beaten the Auroran String, landed on Heraan, and there was no Heraan - Va Ytreck carrier. Any ideas?

Looking at other plugins via Get Info, I noticed they were "EV Nova Documents" and my plug was a "ResEdit Document." Is there a difference?

Yup. You have to go somewhere in ResEdit (I think it's a get info choice in the program somewhere in the menus) and change the type to Npďf and the creator to Növä (umlauts included).

• How do you make the subtitles appear below the ship name in the shipyard (like for used vessels or in the plug-in Ship Variants)?

• How do you make a description show up in the shipyard?

• How do you put a picture in the info pop-up? (I'd like to put the normal Auroran Carrier pic in there, not a new one)

• What do the availbits do? (I noticed Ship Variants doesn't wipe them, so what does wiping them do?)

Hey - figured out how to do the subtitles in the shipyard, and saw how the dëscs linked to the pics, but can't figure out how to link the shďps to the dëscs...?

Oh, found/downloaded the bit bibles too.

Alright, you the ships link to the dëscs by 13000 + shďp Index ID. Index is very important, it is the number of the resource realitive to other resources. Not the Res ID. That's all, hope it helps.

Yes, that definitely helps. Now I'm messing with display orders and copying the availbits from the regular Aurora Carrier into the Heraan one so you can only buy it when in the Auroran string. I'm now considering sending the plug into the addons page.

By the way, did ya download the Holy Nova Bible (capitalise this holy word, lest of being an heretic!)? It's the reference for all the Nova-specific resources (all those umlauted resource types); by the way, on your computer and an american keyboard, you do alt-u, then the vowel to make these odd chars, but on these boards for better browser and cross-platform compatibility I advise you to type & e uml; for ë, for instance. Also, thorougly examining the data files can help you understand things (but I advise you to lock them first). Last but not least, in order to always have the possibility to create a new plug, I suggest you to make a copy of yours, wipe the copy of all its resources, rename the copy "blank plug", and if you want to make a new plug copy this blank one.

To avoid conflicts. Apple have reserved all combinations of 4 lower case letters, and upper case ones are used for a lot. Resource name conflicts could cause all sorts of fun with templates
