I hate to bother you guys, but im lost. Youll all seem to know what your doing so well i didnt want to put a stupid post, but ive searched everywhere, all the posts, all the guides and random web searches, but i cant find a newb guide(and im talkin complete newb<--) ive downloaded the bible and some random plugs, which ive learned from. i just got nova tools working and i figured out how to mess with the data files, like the char by making a new pilot start with mad cash, and messing with the weight of some of your different weapon plugins. but i dont know how to make a plug in!!1 i can edit the data file and get it to work, but thats not a plugin, thats pretty much a system file. i was just wandering how you guys do it. do you start from scratch or do you open the data files to ?? someplease help, id love to express some creativity if i could just figure it out.

You have to open a nova plug in Res Edit, open its info and copy the creator and type codes into a blank Res Edit file's creator and type fields. That makes a Nova plug. Mission computer makes plugs really easily if you have it. Once you've done that just copy the resorces you wan't to edit out of nova's data files.

There's even easier: just take a random plug (if you don't have one, download a light cheat plug), erase all the contents of the plug (copy it before if you wish to keep the original!), rename the copy "blank plug", and everytime you'll want to make a new plug just copy this blank one.

yeah, i'm new at this too. I figured out how to mess with the game in about five minutes, but I'm not sure how a plug gets 'plugged'. say you make a new ship, rleD and shan and all, how does it go into the game? what has to go into your plug? does a plug automatically override the evn system information? could someone give me an example on how to do this or something of the type, because this is really confusing and I don't want to screw up my game. also - the bits are true false switches, i believe, but how do they get differentaited? i've seen plugs where every outfit has enable bit1 checked off... so what is necessary for a TC? what needs to be inserted? i mean, i know new ships, new missions, new universe but HOW? that is the serious failing of the bible. it gives definitions but no explanations or examples, and the string part is not explained at all. how do things RELATE? what needs to be done for anything?

Download a plug-in (preferably several- a few 'new ship or outfit', several 'cheat'/'new mission string', and at least one TC), and dissect it in one of the editors. Then experiment by changing the datavalues in those plug-ins. And refer back to the EVN developer's documentation often- you seem not to have read it enough; it's not that difficult to understand.
