      Okay. How do I set them up? What I mean is, what numbers do I use. I have some PICTS with 36 frames, but no matter what I do, they come out cut off.

    • When you import, you need to set the width and height to the width and height of each frame.
      Also theres a glitch in the mask. Noncontinuous paintbucket with tol0 and no antialiasing on the gray lines on the mask. Also, i think you may have imported the mask as the image and the image as the mask.

      What is the total dimensions of the file?
      How many pictures are in it in each direction?
      Divide total dimentions by number of pictures.
      Ex: 60x60 image containing 36 sprites in 6x6 array, 60x60/6x6=10x10. width and height are both 10.

    • You'd better count them up then. It kinda helps you figure out the distances, to know the overall size.

      Presumably you have exported these images, so you now have them as bitmaps. Open the folder they are in. Hover your mouse over one for a second or so and it will show the total dimentions as a tooltip (just like how you get info about what a field in EVNEW means when you hover your mouse over it).

      Strange. On my system, it shows the dimentions.
      Any image editing program can tell you the dim's, even MS paint.
      Open it up and go to the image properties or image size (Depending on the program) and it will show you the size. In MS Paint, its Image->Attributes...

    • Okay. So, the dimentions are 96x96.

      96x96/(6x6)=256

      That is really big. Too big. It gives me 12 pages of elongated blackness with no Sprite.

    • 96/6=32/2=16, so each individual pic is 16x16 pixels. This is what you put into the spin/shan resource (or maybe the import thingy in EVNEW). 16x16=256, so it's 256 pixels total, but you need to put in width and height instead.

    • Excellent. I got that now. So, I made a new Spin resource (3003-unused) but now Nova crashes. It says:

      "Resource ID: Error loading spin resource from PICT
      Code: 3003
      Resource not found."
      then "Okay"

      And after that: Nova will now quit. The failure occured file: Sprite.c, line 838

    • It looks like Nova is trying to load a PICT (3003, maybe) but it can't, probably because you don't have a PICT there. I haven't done any template editing in Nova, but in the shan editor in NovaTools there's a set of radio buttons for PICT/rle8/rleD, so I'd try some equivalent option in EVNEW. Can you get us a debuglog, or is that a snippet from one?

    • Did i give in my example 60x60/(6x6)=100? No. I gave it as 10x10. We are getting out dimentions, not a single number (unless you multiply them together to get the total number of pixels, which since we dont want, isnt useful). I was trying to save space and write it in a way which i would think would be completely intuitive. In any case, considering the units would have quickly revealed where you went wrong. If you want two distances, and you end up with one area, you dont pretend that that area is a distance, do you? If you do a calculation to find a distance in miles, and you end up with an answer of 5 square miles, you wouldnt try to use the number 5, you would go back and hunt down where you made the error in the calculations, and fix it. Granted, I bear some of the blame for using some appallingly non-standard notation, but i did take care to make it look like not-multiplication ( the "x" is a REALLY BAD symbol to use for multiplication. In math on paper, the single dot is standard, and in type, most people choose to use the * because it eliminates any doubt about wheather to multiply. I will never use x as a multiply symbol.

      The states of the radio buttons arnt saved. Its just for where you want the preview to come from.

      1. Spin 3003 is used, right in nova graphics 2 with all the other spins.
      2. Does your spin properly reference the RLE? Do you have an RLED? RLE8's arnt used on windows, and even on mac, are only used when running the really old and ugly 8bit color mode.

    • Az: I got it to shoot out my sprite. Unfortunatly, it is just the white version of the sprite (i.e the hollow trace version). What is with that?

    • I have another problem involving EVNEW: i'm using some of Onyx's graphics in EVN. However, they're in pict form instead of rleD and when i import in the rleD section, I can't produce a pict with more than one frame. In other words, the sprites are being read as one image and thus one frame. Help?

    • LOBF: I think you are still using the mask as the image and the image as the mask 😉
      Try importing the image again. If that doesnt work, make sure you havnt done something stupid like leave two version of your plug in the plugs folder (I have done this, and spent hours debugging).

      Actually, in EVNEW, if the sprite has no black parts on it, and was saved losslessly, (NO JPEG!), using the image as the mask works - EVNEW treats anything non-black as white when it imports - but even 1/256th of any color or nonblackness will cause it to treat a pixel as white for the purpose of max importing.

      You didnt set any of the settings that you need to set in order to setup your graphics set. 😛 Did you change any of the fields that were shown on the import screen?

      You need to set:
      Xframes (frames in x direction on imported image)
      Yframes
      Height (of each frame)
      Width (of each frame)
      First frame (Leave as 1. I have no idea what this is useful for)
      Number of frames
      Height and width are explained above, the others are self explanitory.

      To clarify what i said earlier about RLE8's: If you read the EVNEW readme, Adam doesnt have the palate information he needs to make EVNEW work with RLE8's - It can make them, but the colors might as well be random.

    • I realize what I need to do, but it won't let me set the x/y frames above 1.

      Additionally, I have Maya5 ple, so it has the annoying watermark. Can you make quality graphics using photoshop alone?
