How about a multiplayer mod for EV? Maybe through Nova, or maybe it's own separate program? Possibly (if anyone's ever been there) like what Centerfleet.com used to do (strictly online, no client to download)?
What's the interest in this? What do you all think? Maybe if there's enough interest, I will start cracking down on my C++ skills and work on it for you all? Of course, this will only be able to be released as an Escape Velocity game with Ambrosia's permission...hey, moderators/officials, what do you think?

EDIT - By the way, does anyone know of a legal way I could get the source to EV, EVO, or EVN? This would undoubtedly be helpful. I'd be willing to pay Ambrosia for it, as long as it's reasonably priced...

There are several attempts to make multi-player Nova. But none of them are exclusively online. This would be very interesting if you could pull it off, but there are probably a LOT of thing that will get in your way.

Don't even mention a multiplayer EV on these boards. Do a search to find out why.

As for the source, you won't be able to, so don't bother.

Ok, Just for the record, I don't mean quite full-fledged...like just multiplayer combat, no CPU ships, max of 4 players in an arena, etc, or something like that? Maybe you'd have to load your player file onto the web server, or something, so the program could read your exact data, and only your exact data, nothing more, nothing less. Ship name, type, outfits, etc. Cargo, no, alliances, no, and then it would save it to a small size file typa thingy with real basic data, plugs disallowed. It would be alot more simple than what they're describing here:

Weapons trajectories would be in vector format, on a 2d playing field (traditional to the essence of EV).
I think this might help quell some fears about stuff.
Any helpful hints/ideas are welcome. Any offers for help are also welcome. Any rejections by andrew, or other moderators, officials, or other in-charge people are un-hoped-for, but also welcome. (If I get an official rejection, I'll just turn it into a LAN-style game, and keep it amongst my friends and me.)

This sounds really interesting.
And a "tiny" bit easier than EV multiplayer as described earlier.

i have no programming skills so i can´t really help out....

i just have a few suggestions to make
- you would need a system to make rules.
- A system where you could use so and so many "points" on your ship/outfits would help balance things out....
you can´t just take your Scarab/Class IV valk.... cloak and smash everyone...maybe a restriction on the trade in value of the ship or somthing.....

i´ll pay for this.

Yeah, it'd be a bit easier than previously explained, but there WOULD be that crazy issue of outfit restrictions. Mission-specific outfits would only be allowed if strictly alowed in just that one arena place. Asteroids would be a must for options, of course, I forgot to mention that...
How do you mean a "system to make rules"? You mean like outline the rules on the login page, or something? Yeah, that'd be pretty simple...hand-coded html, or Dreamweaver or something.
Yeah, the points thing you're talking about would be okay. Maybe there could be powerups hidden in asteroids (kinda like Maelstrom/Aster(ax/ix/whatever)), which would give you missile reloads, shields, etc? Yeah, as stated above, no mission-specific upgrades or specials, and no plug-based weapons/ships. Maybe only base armor and shields with no shield upgrades? Hmm...dunno. Maybe yes, and just divide play by skill level or whatever? Who knows? And, of course, there'd have to be a kill-counter, for bragging rights ;)...
Oh, or maybe no pilot file upload, but instead just fighters, no alien, (lightning, hawk, confed gunboat, confed scoutship, rebel manta, etc) and then you pick one, and it comes with its given armaments, and speed, etc. That would be infinitely easier! Maybe more boring, but anyone who has wanted to fly a hawk, etc would love it (me, and I have flown them...they suck.)
Well, wish me luck, I think I'm going with the latter, unless a majority wants the original idea...
