That's because they're encoded different ways, and if the app isn't hardcoded to recognize the method used, you'll get a bunch of symbols.
Dan27: Tell your parents that all you're doing is making plug-ins for a game you like. Tell them that you have no interest whatsoever in programming, and that you know the first thing to do is back up your file. Tell them that you won't be touching the system files (ResEdit warns you when you try anyway). That's what I did ('cept for the bit about not being interested in programming...I love programming, except for Java, which I despise).
If your parents still have issues, they don't have to know you're using it!
Anyway, I don't see what you plan to accomplish. There is no Wild Geese storyline in EV.
