    • Nova Weapons more Accurate?

I've found in both of the previous games and nova that when a ship is flying past rather quickly, turrets dont track worth jack. I've tacken out quite a few capital ships this way, just in a fighter. And in a shuttle in Override I actually managed to take a a vorlon Frigate, and capture it. (Lucky day) I was just wondering if there was a way to make the turrets track properly. I've gone back to forward firing weapons because the turreted ones suck so badly. With a couple dozen straifing runs I can take out capital ships, its rediqulous.

I dont know of a workaround for this - turret tracking is of course built into the engine.
Have you tried pumping up the speed of the shots, and seeing what effect that has? It wouldnt fix it totally, but it would propably help.

    • I know that beam weapons are ridiculously accurate, in particular PD beams. They never miss a missile! I think the problem is that EV doesn't know anything about leading a target- if you pump up your unguided shot's speed, like Azratax said, you'll probably see better results.

    • I've done this before to see the effect, but if a ship is going to fast the cannon actually fired behind you trying to lead the target in some way. The problem is it wont lead and track at the same time. Lasers are the only things that'll stay tracking. And like the man said, only because they;re crazily accurate.

    • The reason they dont track good, is that you are random. The engine tracks to say X90 y30 of the ship. You drop back to X30 Y30. You are random. The engine isnt that advanced. Come to think of it, no engine is.

    • Fair point you have the The Cheat, I guess I'll be switching to lasers. Another question, how do I make Point defence lasers fire at larger ships? I've notices that the computer can fire more then 2 weapons at a time and I've quite decided that why shouldn't we? Besides, it rather foolish to hold down a button for a turret when it'd be much simpler to make it auto isn't it?

    • Click the "Vulnerable to PD" flag in the ship resource. Like it sounds, it makes the ship a viable PD target. Nova, I believe, only has small ships like fighters marked this way.

Vorlon Frigate? Do you mean Voinian Frigate? Because Vorlon isn't even close...it's closer to "Vogon", which is a common SF name. The first use that comes to my mind is Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

    • My understanding of how this worked is that the game extrapolates from the position and velocity of the target and the firing ship and the speed of the projectile to determine the appropriate direction to fire in. There is clearly a bug in this alog, because the a fighter in a straight line is often missed by the turrets.

    • Prime, not even close. It wasn't intended to be serious, but it was referring to your comment a while back, on how every time you come up with an idea, he's already done it. Don't worry about it. 🙂
