    • Searching the Dev board will be your first step towards successfully adding ships to Nova. There are many different programs available to create your own 3d models, Lightwave, Maya, Strata, Blender, Wings3D, Mechanisto, POV-Ray, etc. Some are free, some are several hundreds of dollars. Searching should provide links and more detailed info. It's not really necessary to import ships from EVO since the conversion plugs have already done this. It's also not possible to import the game sprites into a 3D modeller so if you wish to edit the sprites in major ways you'll have to remodel them. DeRLE from (url="http://"http://w00tware.ev-nova.net/")w00tware(/url) will allow you to extract the sprites in to single frame images to be edited in a graphic editing program like Photoshop or Gimp.

Dont forget about Wings 3d. At first glance (only bareloy played with it) it looks easier than most. Unforturnately you have to use another program to render it.

Acually, since he is running Windows 2000, that program won't work.
What you need, mironixima, is (url="http://"http://www.aznt.com/EVN/EVNEW/")EVNEW(/url) or, E scape V elocity N ova E ditor for W indows.

It is an incredibly user friendly tool, which allows (I belive) all of the functions as ResEdit and NovaTools with Mac, but easier. Also, you won't need DeRLE at all, because EVNEW can export the images themselves, to be edited in Photoshop or Gimp. Good Luck, and Have Fun.

Wrong. I'd like to see you edit a CNTL, DITL, DLOG, WIND, or any other of the MANY that ResEdit can have. I'd also like to see it have compatibility for making your own templates. It edits all the Nova-specific resources, STR, STR#, PICT, and probably a couple others, but is NOTHING compared to ResEdit's capabilities. Of course, ResEdit is for Mac, which is what resources were developed for (and thus why there is so much more you can do with it), so I'm not trying to insult Aprosenf.

Also, you should use the LASIK technique to make your sprites look good. If you're wondering what the difference is, take a look at this:

      Posted Image

      To use the LASIK technique:

      • Render your sprites at double the size you want them in-game.

      • Open your sprites in Photoshop and do an Unsharp Mask filter (Filter > Sharp > Unsharp Mask, as I recall), setting the settings (from top to bottom) to 325%, 1.0, and 0.

      • Resize it to 50% however you like, and look at the difference!
