    • Anyone know exactly how Afterburner outfits work?

We know AB's use fuel and increase speed, but does anyone happen to know exactly how they effect speed and accel numerically (not "They make speed and accell go up", but "they make speed go up like this and accel go up like that") Also, even when up key isnt down, they do accellerate the charachter.
I would love some hard data here
      Thanks
      -Az

    • I'd like to know this too, just to store away in my memory.

    • To answer your second question, yes. Sometimes (on my Vellos ship, at least) when I've pushed my up key and "z" at the same time, it actually hasn't worked.

Thats a consequence of inertialessness, and I have a feeling it's a minor bug.

    • That afterburner bug I think was fixed in 1.0.6. If not, it's definately a known bug.

In any case, I don't have any hard numbers for you, Az, although I do know that it is calculated as a percentage- afterburners work better on fast ships than on slow ships- it's not a simple +100 speed/accel. That said, from playing the game, my estimate of the percentage is in the neighborhood of 25%-50%, although I'm thinking 25%-33% is the most likely.

Lets see, how to test this, hmm. You could give yourself two weapons of known speed, 1 matched to your ship's top speed, and the other to various percentages of that speed. Fire weapon A, and it should just stay with you. Hit the afterburner, and it should be left behind. Fire weapon B now, and if you guessed right, it will stay with you. That would work, but I think it would take awhile. However, your results would be really accurate.

I don't have time to do it- this would be a great project for all you new plug builders to cut your teeth on, though 🙂

    • Don't some weapons take advantage of relativity and add the speed of your ship to their speed?

I've noticed this effect before. I can also stop a fast weapon dead if I decellerate right when I'm firing it.

Sometimes, the weapon will travel backwards, demonstrating that, in fact, such a test might not work as planned. Maybe if you hit the afterburner just after you fired the weapon, or had it sub after a few second...

When viewing a Terrapin for the first time, I realized that anything flies-if you throw it hard enough!

    • Well, the simplest thing to do would be using a rocket with the correct speed. If there is relativity on some weapons, I know the rocket isn't one of them.

Some do. Missiles and rockets do not. Freeflgith rockets take a while to get up to speed though.

Perhaps a missile of 0 turning, then.
