due to an error when unstuffing EVNEW, i can't copy or paste anything in the program. is there any way to fix this?

Of course: By not encountering errors in the decompression process. Do you know that this is your problem, anyway, and not some other problem with EVNEW and your setup?
First, it is zipped, not stuffed. It is a disgrace to EVNEW if you use stuffit expander to decompress it. If you are using stuffit expander, get a real compression program. WinRAR, WinACE, PowerArchiver, even WinZIP (get one of em from download.cnet.com or google for them).
If you are using a real decompression program, dont say you unstuffed it.
Besides, how did you manage to cause an error in the decompression process and still get anything out of it?
Finally, it is really unprofessional to offer to do a task for people before you know you have tools capable of doing it. It's like if i promise you a ride somewhere, let you get into the car, and then discover that I am out of gas and have 4 flat tires.

Whoa, calm down, Azzy. Reads again WinRAR? That decompresses zipped files? News to me...anyway, I don't think we need a long rant about a word a new guy used.
By the way, are you insulting StuffIt in general or just StuffIt for Windows?
Cunjo: Azratax's last statement is true. Don't advertise things you can't accomplish. Also, there is no way to fix your problem. Az is right—WinStuffIt sucks. If you are using it, get something else. On the Mac, StuffIt is fine, but I doubt you'll find anyone here who's terribly impressed by the Windows version. Whatever you're using, use something else. If that fails, redownload EVNEW. I've found redownloading often helps.

I was telling him to NOT use windows stuffit for anything other than stuffed plugins. It can't even decompress its own .sit format without persuasion. I wouldnt want to try to make it do any thing else. If he is using stuffit to decompress files, nowonder he is having problems. All the programs i mentioned will decompress just about every common format.
If the problem is from a decompression problem, using a better program like WinZip, WinRar, WinAce, or Power Archiver (WinAce is nice because, last I checked, all it had was a nag screen. WinZip may be free.)

<rant> YES, I am insulting all of stuffit and Alladin. Alladin Systems is staffed by drunken monkeys and always has been. Stuffit was balky back when I was using macs in the days of Mac OS 7.3. Stuffit 7.0 for mac flushed the type and creator codes (HOW DID THEY MISS THAT?!). Stuffit 8.0 for windows shot itself in the foot with crossplatform settings. WinStuffit is also unable to handle .bin and .hqx files reliably or sanely. Almost every problem on the main boards, mac or pc, is from using the "wrong version" of stuffit. What is up with this? They arnt adding any new features, so every problem means they broke something! And it's not like we want to use some obscure function of the program. We just want it to do it's most basic function, and it cant do it. Alladin Systems is staffed by drunken monkeys, and thier excuse for a product is the bane of all who are forced to use it. If they had opened up thier .sit format, competitors with thier act together would have buried Alladin. </rant>

that would be the other problem. i was forced to get stuffit standard in order to encode things in macbinary, now i can't use anything else to unzip the file. (something happened to the original program)
either way, i think that was after i unzipped it the first time, so it couldn't be stuffit's fault.
i think that my computer just butchers most anything i try to download anyway.

Ah, yes. I understand you completely. When I needed to compress something in .bin format, I also got StuffIt, and it took over my computer and I was forced to use it instead of the decompressor that came with Windows XP. Just get a better program, it should take control again. Right?
Az: If it was housed by drunken monkeys, I doubt that Aladdin Systems would have been able to create a system of compressing files, and also be able to write applications to compress and decompress them (StuffIt does actually work, depending on your version. I have 8.0.2 for Mac, and it works just fine. So there :p).
Anyway, bashing the living s*** out of StuffIt isn't helping. Cunjo, just get a different program and from there, you're on your own.

I pity the fool who believes such a thing. From my StuffIt Deluxe version 6.0.1:
- .sit
- .sea
- .bin
- .hqx
- .cpt (not in StuffIt, but it exists)
- All the formats you seem to think are Windows-only
- All the Unix formats (even under OS9)
There are plenty of compression/decompression programs as well. StuffIt is just the most popular.

why not use .ZIP or .ACE etc? for what i've seen .sit is a bit on the crap side

.sit may be a perfectly fine format. The problem with it that Alladin holds the copyright for the format, and wont let anyone else make programs that can work with it. The result of this is that they face no competition and thus no pressure to make a better program. The reason .sit is one of the only choices for plugins is that most compressing formats dont support a resource fork - which is where the plugin data is stored.
The only way to zip or ace a plugin would be to encode it with macbinary first (This would work well - mac users could just de-bin it, and a PC user could just unzip and drop on the converter).
Personally, I belive that the right thing to do is to abandon .sit, and move to macbinary encoded plugins within zip files. Lets stay away from exotic stuff like Ace and Rar 2.0 compression stuff. .zip is widely used, and it's good enough.

Orca: See, the thing is, you shouldn need a spesific version of stuffit to make it work. It's the most basic function of the program, it should always work. You dont ever hear people saying "Oh, you cant unzip a text file with winZIP version X , you have to downgrade to this other version". But you always hear people saying "You cant unstuff some files on mac stuffit 7.0, downgrade or upgrade" and "You cant use winstuffit 8, downgrade to 7.5". This really shouldnt be.

I agree. I don't understand why this happens. They're not adding new features, and older versions work fine (sometimes). Perhaps they try to fix some extremely minor bug (like special characters not working properly sometimes or something) and end up breaking the engine. I likely will abandon .sit. Like mrxak (I think) said, .bin.zip is the best way to go. One minor thing I noticed, though, is that .sit is a little more efficient than .zip in compression, which makes it a better format—but the problem is that there aren't any very good decompressors for it. I've not often found the compressor to be buggy, but decompression...yeah.
Also, yes, nothing exotic like RAR or ACE. That forces people to install a new program, and that's s*** they shouldn't have to go through. Some people will trash the file because they shouldn't have to get a new program to decompress the file.

Get WinZIP or WinRAR (I suggest WinRAR). Even if they arn't free, all they do is popup a window saying its not registered. It doesn't stop you from using it.
(url="http://"http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm")WinRAR(/url) - now stop complaining.
Of the compression formats, I like gzip...its nice and unixy...and bzip2...mmm tar...

will winrar do macbinary encoding?
