    • Shameless self promotion, and a little tease

I remember somone saying ''Advertisement is the first step to vapourware''

      Oh well. 😛

(edit by Mazca: 250kb images make my modem sad, and 1200px width images make my browser window display sad. Please link to large images.)

This is an Ingame screenshot of a TC im currently working on, and whether it actually gets finished or not, Im not that fussed, I'm having fun and learning whilst doing it, so it's worth it. The ship is the Swordfish (Pirate Variant) and that object behind it is an Asteroid base. (Animated spob, btw)

The real point of this topic is to get some of you developers who don't visit the Image Gallery, to check out my post over there:
      (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/webboard/Forum56/HTML/001493.html")http://www.AmbrosiaS...TML/001493.html(/url)

I need as many comments, critism and opinions on it as possible. So go have a look and post please!

    • Sorry about that Mazca, I didn't think the Image was too large. I suppose they shouldent be large enough to screw with the width of the posts. Is there any official guidelines on image size anywhere, because It doesen't say anything about it in the guidelines, or in the UBB Section where it explains about image linking.

Maybe thats something that should be included if the guidelines ever get updated.

So what did people think of the screenshot then? (I think it may be a bit dark for other computers, so you may need to bump up the brightness on your monitor to see it clearly)

Just my personal belief but I feel that images should be able to fit in the ol 800x600 screen with as much compression as possible without noticeably affecting quality. I know it wouldn't do the screen shot justice but going larger than that becomes a little absurd and the file size starts becoming exessive. I'd say 1024x768 max if it was really important. Just remember that most of the world still uses dial-up.

Oh, I think I already commented in the Image Gallery but if not, I think the image is great. I really hope to see the project finished.

    • Awesome sense of the ridiculous! The sprites are rather too dark for my screen, but the concepts of the ship and the station are hilariously cool. The sidebar is great -- truly distinctive.

I'm working on some similarly bizarre stuff -- not similar in form, but similar in how bizarre it is.... I wish it was in shape to share; half the models are for EVO and half are for EVN. I may explain the insane violations of the laws of reason and physics by saying that there was an improbability drive malfunction, or that the player is living inside a Magrathean test universe being used to store unbuilt custom-ordered planet designs, or both. You could go with something similar, or perhaps I'll make a plug that is compatible with your TC someday.

In the meantime: Go, man, go!

I've never been to scientifically minded really, so alot of this plug will seem quite absurd to be people, but In a universe full of billions of Galaxys, and in turn having billions of star sytems, whose to say there won't be sailing ships made out of wood gracing the stars? Whose to say Einstein's laws were right? (No offence intended to Einstein, but I'm just trying to get the general force behind the plug across)

Not all ships have to be pressurized tubes with rockets at the end!

I'd love to see some of your stuff Dr. Trowel, maybe you could post some on the Image gallery sometime in the future.

Oh yeh, there will be some space-fishing in my plug aswell. (Think mining, but with fish!)

    • You don't need to rationalize the physics; all you have to do is to write a great story. After all, most people read science texts for the science within, and fiction novels for the story within. If they did the opposite, I daresay that many people would suddenly become extremely unsatisfied with the material they were reading.

Most sci-fi psudeoscience falls apart anyways once you closely examine it (or is so vague as to prohibit direct examination), so go ahead. If you're not writing 'hard' science-fiction, there's no reason for you to have to explain the dynamics of your universe, unless it is pertinent to the plot, etc.

The story is still in development at the moment, but it's going to be the main feature of the game, I've got a lot of writing done for the preambles, and all the main races history planned out. I'm doing the graphics when I get a bit bored of the writing side of things, and then I go back to the writing.

    • I love the interface, and the ship looks rather cool in an offbeat way. As for wooden ships, wasn't there a small race in EVO north of Voinian space who used wood in their ships?
